Installing CWM Without Mounting to PC/Developer Mode?

Hi all,

I didn't want to make a forum post but after a few days of trying i need help!

Basically I'm sure I need to reset my Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 to factory settings. Something happened and now it will not charge - yellow exclamation mark and false 100% claims. Here's the deal:

  • I cannot turn on the phone when it is not connected to charger.
  • If i plug it into a charger then it gives me the yellow exclamation symbol along with the empty battery (this is recent, the first few days it didn't have the exclamation point but it didnt charge)
  • I can turn on the phone when connected to a charger, it'll turn on and give the "Critical Battery" warning, and i can use it for a few seconds (less than 15) before it turns off normally (not suddenly, with the animation and everything).
  • Sometimes the phone will give me 100% readings but do the same when i turn it on.
  • I can enter recovery mode (3e)
  • I can not mount to PC/Debugging/ Device Not Recognised
So, the problem is i have an important pdf file with a lot of contacts from a conference i attended and a few other important files on the phone's hard drive. I could really need these. So i can not afford to lose these without at least trying.

I cannot connect the device to pc for Odin/Kies etc.

Knowing i can enter recovery mode (the standard, stock recovery mode, 3e i believe) i tried to install CWM via SD to see if could somehow save my files- I get

e verification failed installation aborted

my phone is rooted but i cannot tell you which kernel etc. I did it a year ago to unlock the network and never really did anything with it after that. Maybe I could have unrooted it at one point? How can i check considering my situation?

Anybody have any tips? Or should i just accept my loss :(

Thanks guys! :smokingsomb:

Edit: The reason i'm doing this is that i'm sure it is not the battery that is the problem. I'm sure it is the hardware or motherboard that's broken. Maybe i dropped it and don't remember or it got wet? I dunno!

You have an almost totally dead battery. Make sure the phone is off, plug in the charger, leave the phone alone for 24 hours. DO NOT turn it on to see how charged it is.

After 24 hours, disconnect the charger and see if it works. Even if it does, you're going to need a new battery soon. Discharging the battery almost to zero shoortens its life terrifically. (You didn't discharge it completely to zero - the internal safety fuse would open before that happens, because it's dangerous to charge a fully discharged lithium battery.)

Next time (next battery), fully charge the battery (phone off) until the phone indicates that it's fully charged. Disconnect the charger and use iit normally until it indicates that you should connect the charger. Turn the phone off, plug the charger in ... 3 complete charge/use cycles. Then try to charge it when it's down to around 50% - you can leave it on or turn it off.

Thanks for the reply!

I've done that and it didn't work unfortunately, although i may have only left it arbout 18-20 hours. I'll try again timing it for roughly 24 hours.

And should i take it that there's no way to do the thing i asked about in the OP? Even if it is the battery i would like to know that answer too if possible :)
