Root Installing CyanogenMod - how to re-install apps/keep data?

jhob

Newbie
I am thinking of installing CyanogenMod7 but would like to keep all my existing apps and their associated data.

Is there an easy way to reinstall these apps and keep the data?

The apps are connected to your Market/Email account, and once bought can be downloaded for free again and again. :D

Titanium Back UP

Just had another thought - what about all the settings to do with my carrier? Will they get lost too or are they picked up from the sim card or is there a way of saving and restoring them?

APNs and such like it should recognise. What other settings were you thinking of?

Do not restore system settings from Titanium - settings from one ROM are usually not compatible with another, which is why a full wipe before installing is recommended. Just apps and their data.

You can restore messages from Ti, but it requires knowing where they are kept. I usually use MyBackup for this just because it's simpler (there are other SMs backup apps available as well).

Thanks for all the advice, installed the ROM tonight and all went about as smoothly as it could have done!

Backed up and then restored apps and settings with titanium backup without a hitch. Backed up my SMS messages with SMS Backup and Restore and the rest was synced with my google account.

Really pleased with how it has all gone and really appreciate everyones help - big slap on the back all round!
