Root Installing New Boot Animation

OK, relatively seemingly simple question...

Have downloaded a new Bootanimation.zip and accompanying audio file from XDA devs website.

Now...can't seem to get it to function properly. WHERE do I put these files? I put them in the /local/data folder and it used the stock VZW boot animation when I rebooted.

Do I need to RENAME the file? Or do I just have it placed in the wrong location?

Thanks

Did you put it in the same place the old bootanimation is? That's where it should be. If you are running a custom ROM they may have moved the directory. Also, you need to rename the old to something like bootanimation.zip.old or bootanimation.old. That way it isn't read by the phone, but it is still there and if you ever need to go back you can just rename it.

It looks like you are looking at a rather old guide. /local/data is actually the old location, where it was at on Android 2.1.

On 2.2 the file is now located in /system/customize/resource

Also, the files MUST now be named VZW_bootanimation.zip (the video) and VZW_Droid (the sound) in order for them to work.

That is where the shutdown.zip animation goes. My bootanimation.zip goes under /system/media/ and if you want to add audio you rename it to android_audio.mp3.

Crap. If you've edited your build.prop file your better put it back EXACTLY how you had it or this will fail every time! Took me half a minute to figure out what I had changed. :)
