Root Installing new ROM

I rooted my phone last night and have installed a ROM manager and a file manager.
I dislike the ROM that I have on my phone right now (i believe its plainjanev2 or something titled like that)

I have found other ROM's that I want to download and have tried but they don't work.

What am I doing wrong?

Can someone give me the steps (and how to complete the steps) or send me to a detailed video/forum that will show me how to do this?

Thank you!

just do it exactyly how you flashed the plainjane.
1. put phone in recovery mode
2. make a nand backup
3. wipe and also do a dalvik wipe
4. then flash over the ROM and then reboot the phone.

im pretty sure i covered everything, thats how i just flashed mine over to nonsensikal

I don't really recall doing any of that when I did the current ROM I have.
I must have just gotten lucky.

I have tried pure eris 2.0 and it didn't work.

well you can always go back and look at the universal eris root for dummies and skip down to the part where you flash the ROM. Its under the section finishing up. it has pictures and step by step instructions
