Installing the OTA 2.1 file

This is what I'm waiting on, I'm on 2.1v3 and I'm waiting for the wife's to update, so I can see them side by side. Anyone done this yet?

I did this earlier today. I am running V3 and my wife (1.5) got the OTA early this morning. Folks are going back and forth about whether or not v3 is the same as OTA. The answer is absolutely YES. V3 flashes your system to the new OS. The OTA file upgrades 1.5 to 2.1. In the end the OS is the same.

So I walk by my phone and decide to take a peek...Three updates available! What are the chance that at least one of them is the OTA? Foursquare / Beautiful widgets / Droidbox....well whoop de doo.

This whole signal bar issue is happening on the Incredible too...I think its an HTC issue...not just an eris 2.1 leak issue

Ok, so I think I may be on to something here. I think the v3 leak may have the PRL hard coded into the system and therefore potentially the cause of the 50% issue?

With the leak v3 - it seems everyone has the same PRL - 51866

My PRL prior to installing the leak was 51892 - not sure why it's different now

arothrock is now at 51893

If PRL is supposed to be location based, then v3 leakers around the country should have different PRLs...
I'm in NY
xxfrozen, where are you?
arothrock, where are you?

Don't mean to ask a dumb question but can this all be done directly from ones phone or do you have to mount it to your computer?

go to the link using the browser on the phone, you will need to manually move the file from the downloads folder to the root of your sd card using Astro or another file management program.

I took the plunge ... here is how long everything took:

11:44 START

11:44-11:52 Deleting Files, Installing, and Rebooting
11:52-11:53 Android Skaters & HTC Flash Screens
11:53-11:56 Verizon Wireless Flash Screen
11:56 Lock Screen
11:56-11:57 Unlocked, HTC Screen
11:57-11:59 Loading .... It may take several minutes to complete, please wait

11:59 DONE

I'm on the v3 leak. I have a low signal in places I expect to have a low signal - places where I hardly have good coverage. I have a high signal in places that I know I have good coverage in. That much hasn't changed, although the visual representation seems to be more.....dramatic.

Those Android Skaters never do last long.. must be some off-screen nut crunches going on.

Squeeky voices, dead giveaway.

I did directly from my phone. Just had to get Astro File Manager to move the update.zip file to the top level.

I have a feeling there will be a minor update in the next few weeks to correct the actual signal strength visually showing up in the number of bars you have. I can imagine that 90% of Eris users that haven't been on the forums, have no idea that number of bars on 2.1 isn't reflecting their actual signal strength and will be contacting support to ask why...

then again, I think it's been said that this is also the case with the Incredible?

Ugh... I'm so tempted... and I don't even know why I'm resisting. Maybe because I've waited and held out for this long, so it would be ludacris?

Wow, the update made my phone a lot faster! (1.5 -> 2.1)

Also, now that I've toyed with it and all my applications are back to how I like them, task killer says I have 50 megabytes of free ram. On 1.5, I would normally have near 30 MB. So 2.1 must be much more efficient in many respects.

I only wish they included a new gallery like my friend got for his Droid when he upgraded to 2.1. The HTC gallery is not nearly as good as the stock android 2.1 gallery.

V3 here in Utah and 51866... My wife is stock 1.5 and on 51892

For a bit when I did the v3 install, I was on 51892 and had no 50% issue, then I did a PRL update and it went back to 51866 with the 50% issue.... strange business
same with me and the 50% issue.

Do a google search for "gallery_flan.apk" it is the 3D Nexus One gallery I believe...its free and it's a nice replacement to the stock HTC gallery...

Use Astro file manager to install it
