Installing the OTA 2.1 file

Well, I just got promoted to french fries, and I'm doing it all correctly, too. ;)

another year or two, I make assistant manager...and that's when the big bucks start rolling in!

It looks like the XDA site is focusing on the same thing I am.

assert compatible_with("0.2") == "true"
assert file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/htc_desirec/desirec/desirec:1.5/CUPCAKE/104882:user/release-keys") == "true" || file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint=verizon/htc_desirec/desirec/desirec:2.1/ERD79/165907:user/release-keys") == "true"
assert getprop("ro.product.device")

That's the first portion of the update-script, which I'm pretty sure is run when updating. I extracted the original .zip file, modified the update-script and re-zipped it. I got a different error than those trying with a leak.

From what I can tell, what I've bolded tells the the update to check for those two versions, and if it matches, to update. So, I'm not sure why it's not working.

I tried it on my phone with v 3. get an error message "can't open /cache/recovery/command" then installation aborts.

my prl is 65132

i have 93 MB of internal phone storage left so that shouldn't be a problem

In other news. going back to this prl stuff. is anyone that has 51866 able to *228 and option 2. I keep getting unsuccessful and to call customer service

only thing i can think of is because it's the most up to date version already

Mine failed also, try *22899, that updated me to 51893. It will not prompt, just does the PRL update.

Okay,
I tried from v3 leak and chose update.zip. It aborted.

We can't say whether this does not work for leakers or 1.5 users because it only worked for the original poster. He must have done a certain dance to get it working.

I am sure it will be fixed very soon by someone here

mine was just recently replaced with a refurb like 2 weeks ago...so mine should be fairly new too...the only thing i noticed that was different from mine and his is that my touch panel says:

Touch Panel-MELFAS_45_17

His says:Touch Panel SYN0104

Could this make any difference?

Also, when mine first loads up after I power down and then hit volume and power, it comes up and starts loading stuff, but everything that starts loading says no image under every catagory...anyone else getting this?

I am going to hold off, I don't want to crash and burn....I'll just watch..

I got that same error in yellow at the bottom of the screen.
It says: "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"

At the top of the screen you should see "Android system recovery (2e)" with a few options:
-Reboot System now
-Apply sdcard:update.zip
-Wipe data/factor reset
-Wipe cache partition

This is where I chose "Apply sdcard:update.zip".

Yup, we're all getting that. BTW, you can skip this whole step by just holding volume up and power when the phone is off to go directly into recovery mode.

Lol.... I'm new on this forum. I am currently a member of the HTC and Verizon forums. You guys crack me up..... You can't wait a couple of more days? My phone is Eris stock 1.5 but I don't think I will attempt this risky operation.

I wouldn't be surprised if what you are all farting around with is not based on OTA. Its probably a zip bomb, posted complements of Verizon, designed to brick your phones or lay down some digital markings so that Verizon can tell who voided their warrentee. It would be big reds last laugh. Post a jacked up zip file along with some goofy instructions... Stand on one toe, scratch your head, push the volume while holding the tracker ball while holding the power button. They could then pop in and out of this forum for a few laughs. :p They probably have bets on how many will fall for it.

Just messing with ya. I think I will wait though

You won't break anything (unless you really try). We're just messing around in the hboot and recovery mode. If it can't do anything useful, it just won't do it and abort.

by the way the exclamation in the pics is not the exclamation i get

i get an exclamation with a phone next to it - is that what every else is getting

I had this as well. I might have the solution is that you need to press power and the phone button at the same time at the exclaimation and phone screen not vol up and power. I was 1.5 now I'm 2.1 If it doesn't work try different combinations of power and a button because honestly I was pressing different buttons trying to make it work

I tried that. I get an image of the Eris with a red triangle with an exclamation point in it.

My phone is now scooting across the floor looking for a box to hide under until the guards stop looking for it.

If the instructions here dont work......then you need to press HOME and POWER instead of VOLUME UP and POWER.......mine is updating now!!!

Someone over at xda just posted Home and Power got them into recovery mode. Tried it on my phone and it went past the exclamation screen to the recovery console.

HA!! That works for me too. Thanks. Confusing though, when you "hit" the home button, you get no haptic feedback.
