Installing the OTA 2.1 file

Just woke up to see that the OTA is available for me to install! I'm currently 1.5 & haven't done any of the leaks or anything. My husband was the same way and when he did his update last night, his contacts got all screwed up & were unsynced from Facebook. Is there a way I can avoid this? And do I need to back up anything else on my phone before letting the system update do its thing?

Installed file following directions. Worked with no problems. Only "glitch" I'm seeing is that I'm not getting email through HTC mail app/widget (personal POP account). Deleted account on phone and did set-up again - nothing.

Picture it more as if a map of the world with all Eris users as shiney little magnetic lights.. ;)

Wow Frisco for a minute I thought I was watching Pumbaa telling Timon about the Giant Flaming Balls of Gas

I did miss the announcement though did you get the OTA or did you breakdown and install the leaked OTA?

Prying minds want to know

i sure as hell hope so
Unfortunately, I'm not so sure. I went in to talk to my verizon guy that I gave the leak to a few weeks ago, but he was on vacation until today. I might head back over later to find out what he's going to do. If he swapped his Eris, then I'm getting a new one and he knows it.

Hi guys
i have HTC hero and i would like to upgrade it with the new 2.1 version or if there is any other better version
any one can help me?

I attempted the manual update file. I got the same abort installation error as some of you guys got. I'm going to just wait for the next update/fix to pop up on phone.. whatever it may be. I'm not doing anymore leaks.

Found that option in settings, downloading update fom the market now, I'll let you know once its done.

EDIT: Says installing voice data on SD Card...interesting

What update did you download from the market? I can see the 'Install voice data' option in my settings, but it is not active, not selectable. But I already have voice navigation. So frustrating...

Failing for me. I'm on 2.1 leak..

Current

FIRMWARE 2.1
KERNEL 2.6.29-564A4A15
BUILD 2.26.605.4 CL140744
SOFTWARE 2.26.605.4

To tell you the truth, I don't know if I'm *still* on the leak or latest official OTA version. I never upgraded or asked to upgrade OTA since I got the phone 6 months ago, so not sure.

When I try to install the 2.1 version (from the link provided in this post)...

I press volume down + power to power up. Only options I get is fastboot mode (send) and recovery mode (vol up). I choose recovery. Then I select the sd card / update.zip option after seeing the red "!" warning sign. I press vol up and power.

On the bottom it says "e:can't open /cache/recovery/command

I still choose "apply sdcard:update.zip" option.

Anyone?

Hmmmm. I'm not sure why I never saw this thread (probably because it's in the main forum).

The OTA-2.1 download can not be used to do anything else except convert a 1.17.605.1 ("1.5") phone into a 2.1 release phone. Sorry leakers. (But that really doesn't matter, because Leak-V3 is identical to the OTA-2.1 anyway; learkers can certainly install that if they want "latest and greatest" from HTC/VZW)

If you are curious, you can even unpack the update-script from within the http: downloadable OTA .zip file ( at META-INF/com/google/android/update-script ) and have a look - the very first thing that it does is check the version of the software on the phone, and abort if it doesn't find what it likes.

104882 is the 1.17.605.1 update of 1.5 and
165907 is the OTA-2.1 itself. (I think this might be in the checks to allow for a restart of a failed partial install)

The only people this is useful for are folks with a 1.5 phone.
