Root installing xrecovery..

OK, i am a novice really, but read enough to root, enable JIT and install xrecovery - however the install for xrec was a bit tricky. When i ran the installer (files were on SD card etc..) i got a message saying "cp not found".

I read a bit more and found an XDA thread that advised we to just move the files to system bin. - i use supermanager as i find it the easiest so for (suggestions welcome). but then when i went to paste the files (had remounted as r/w) i got another message saying "not enough space"...

So my questions are: what am i doing wrong, is there an element to this process that i have missed? Secondly, why did i get the "not enough space" message - when i'm confident there was plenty!?

And finally, This forum has been amazing, especially for someone like me - trying to get the best out of a device that i knew was capable of more! So, are there any other recommended improvements i could make, i have read about "over-clocking" but am not sure how/what - i also feel let down by Sony when it comes to the music quality of the x10i :( Also get a jumping connection when i blue-tooth audio to my car :( - again, suggestion greatly appreciated!

All advice appreciated!
Thanks to all.

You want the image you are trying to load using xRecovery to be on the SDCard. Make sure there are no spaces in the name of the folder you copied over there.

Cheers for the reply, i get that and have successfully switched to the eminence rom once before, but needed to re-flash 2.1 and start over as i had tapped something on titanium while un-installing stock apps and so things went pear shaped! so having started again i thought i would be fine - but as my post mentions - i am struggling to get xrecovery on this time round (not sure how i did it first time!) and get this "cp not found" message! the files and folder are all present and correct on my SD card, no spaces etc.. :o

Thanks again, i have cracked it!! The only minor problem i encountered was once i had installed everything i used the busybox installer (xrec seems to push a 1.15 version on to the system) and told it to install the 1.17 and erase all others - but once i had xrec stopped working??!!?? Does it matter if i just keep the 1.15 version that comes with xrec? and do i need to keep the busybox file that sits on my SD card root?!

silly probably but i like to know these things!!!

Thanks again to all for help and support - aside from the poor music tools i now love my x10!!!

Hi guys! Another noob here! (not completely... i think... but in need of help please)
I have managed to root my X10 mini, and got all excited and started setting up to put some ROMs on it... but couldn't get xRecovery to work (same as above...)

I have followed tutorials on a large number of sites, and nothing seems to work!
I first tried the BusyBox and xRecovery installer apps - didn't work... I always check the /system/bin folder to see whether the three relevant files (BusyBox, Chargemon and xRecovery.tar) are there...
I have tried the manual method (from both zip files, and apk files that i changed into zip files)...
I have tried changing the permissions to (what I understand to be) chmod 777 (they for a sort of 'n' shape in the 3x3 grid)...

After unsuccessful attempts following the exact steps of the tutorials, I've started to simply try anything that seems reasonable enough to possibly work...
I even tried doing a factory reset (after failing a number of times using tutorials) to see if that might help clear up the problem...

I'm blabbering too much... I'll try asking a few questions for now
1)There are number of versions of BusyBox available... is a specific version necessary for xRecovery to run properly?
2)I keep seeing more and more empty folders (of varying names) in the /system/bin directory with the modify/create dates on them the same as the dates I attempted the installation process(es)... worried about deleting them and causing a problem of some sort... but could they be the source of the problem?
3) I've deleted and reinstalled the 3 files a number of times, sometimes using apk installers to do the job... could the files appearing (as in Q.2) be the cause of the problem?

Sorry, I know i've blabbered and asked a whole lot of noobish questions, but any advice would really be much appreciated
Thanks

x10miniman, Please click on the link in my sig and help me help you

Thanks 916x10, but I finally managed to get it working!!! I ended up trying out a number of different versions of xRecovery (0.1 is for X8, 0.2 & 0.3 for X10 series - 0.3 worked for me, although it was the first one I tried it ended up working using a different copy I got from another site) and checking all of the permissions - I was doing what I understood to be 777 chmod, which looked something like this
xxx
x x
x x

But I think ticking them all and using the different copy of the xRecovery.zip file did it!
I'll be sure to post the relevant information (as detailed in your link) in my next post, and thanks again :)

Glad u got it working....yeah that info helps get the right answer, faster, it would be nice if more people would provide it.

Learned this method from a guide provided by 916x10..

Connect your phone to pc and flash tool..

- Enable USB Debugging ( Go to Settings -> Applications -> Development -> tick "USB Debugging")
You'll see "Ask Root Perms" button after enabling usb debug.

Go to flashtool and hit the "Ask Root Perms" button
A pop out will occur..

Choose 0.3gb and hit ok..

Hit "ALLOW" button on Superuser pop out and there you are!
