Insufficient Storage Problem

Hello All:

I am new to Your forums so please excuse me if I posted this in the wrong area.

My Wife, Son and Myself all have the LG F3 Optimus 4G LTE phone and our carrier is Metro PCS. (I included all pertinent info in my profile)

The problem we're all having is that when we try to update Apps ie.,. Google Chrome, Facebook, Draw Something Free or Words with Friends, we keep getting a message "Insufficient Storage" I have disabled and cleared data on all the Apps I don't want ie.,. Google Play Books, Google Play Games, Google Play Magazines, Google Play Movies & TV and Google Play Music, to make space on my phone it says that I have 1.1GB used and 152MB free. But when I try to update the Apps that I do want it keeps telling me "Insufficient Storage" this is maddening. I go through clearing all the Cache and even make sure theres nothing running in the Task Manager before trying to update using Google Play Store. (I did NOT disable or Clear Data on Google Play Services or Google Play Store.) I am a PC Gamer so I have a fair knowledge of Windows but as far as Linux I'm not too familiar with that OS. I would appreciate any helpful tips you could send my way.

P.S.
All Phones have 16GB SD Cards
and I've moved everything to the SD Card
that the phone will Allow me to. This seems
to be an Internal Storage Issue.

Hello kpiatkowski51, Welcome to Android Forums! :)

While the F3 is a pretty decent phone, it is rather limited in memory. 4GB total with only 1.2 GB available to the user will limit your ability to load it up, especially with games. If you go to menu>settings>applications, click on the "all" tab, you can then touch the menu key and sort the apps by size. You'll see which are the largest.

You may be able to reclaim a little space by limiting the numbers of email and messages on your phone. If you tend to send a lot of pictures or media files via email or text, these will bloat up the internal memory as they are stored in a protected database.

Thanks, already been through all of that though. What would happen if I were to "Clear Data"(Not just "Clear Cache") on Apps that I use all the time? Apps like "Google Play" and "Words with Friends" would I need to know my G-Mail password the next time I want to use that App or play that game?

I would like to know if there are other processes that I can turn off or ways that I can dump some of the clutter from the "Protected Databases" on my phone. On 1 of my phones I use "DU Speed Booster" not enough space to Install it on my Wife's phone.:shot:

Thanks in Advance!

The only way to do anything with pre-installed or system apps is to root your device. If you do that, please ask before deleting anything or you may end up rendering your phones u unusable.

It's a common problem with prepaid phones. They don't give you a bunch of space for your apps. Also something you should know as I see lots of people do this thinking they are getting something but when you save an app over to the SDCARD it really doesn't save the app to it. It only saves a small part of the app to it. In order to actually save your app to the SDCARD you would need to root the phone and get a program like Link2SD.

As far as the preinstalled stuff as my friend luna points out again you would need to root the phone. I would highly recommend that you use an app like Titanium Backup to freeze said apps before deleting them.

Oh as far as deleting the data for your apps you could do that but may have to set them all up everytime you use them. You would find this to get very old. But other than app data you would need to clean all data like emails, text messages, call logs. All are stored in the /data folder and are using up your space.
