Help Intercept freezes computer (and even prevents start-up)

I'm pretty amazed that my intercept can do this and while I've read of troubles connecting the intercept to a computer, I haven't seen this yet.

When I connect the intercept to a computer, I'm able to mount the SD card and everything. I can even see the folders created on the SD card by android. But when I start trying to copy files onto the computer, it freezes Windows Explorer. And it's not the kind of freeze that can be undone, even force close can't fix it. The only thing I can do is restart the computer. The oddest thing is, the computer won't start while the intercept is plugged in. It just hangs while detecting the IDE drives (not a coincidence).

I've replicated this on 2 computers, one running W7 64-bit and one XP 64-bit.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just my intercept? It's past the 30 day return phase unfortunately... hoping it's not just me and a lemon.
 
Your computer will hang on start up if it is trying to boot from a USB device or something other than your HDD. If it doesn't recognize it, you could see a variation of a blank screen with a blinking cursor or it could hang up after posting past the BIOS. As far as locking up your PC when you try to copy stuff over, that seems pretty odd and I don't think it has any fault with your phone, I would have originally thought maybe it was your PC but you said you replicated it on 2 other PC's. So unless you are one of the lucky few who have ended up with a network virus (which the PC repair shop I work at has had happen) then I am not sure what else it could be.

All I can suggest doing is download some cleaning programs, all free of course, ATF Cleaner, CCleaner and run those then run Malwarebytes and run a full scan to check for any virus'. That would be the only think I could think of.

Computers do weird things even without viruses.

Anyway, I was able to fix the problem of the hang up while copying files by formatting the SD card from the computer. When I formatted it from the Intercept, it must have made it incompatible somehow. So, one mystery has been solved. Hopefully anyone else who has had freezing issues in Explorer will be able to find this thread and format the SD card to solve the issue.

As far as freezing during boot up, even the new formatted SD card forces the computer(s) to freeze. Some more testing indicates this happens only if I reset the computer, not if I turn it on from its off state.

Strange... but I can live with it as long as I can at least connect to my Intercept.
 
I too on multiple laptops get a black screen when rebooting with the Intercept connected. Funny thing is, when I unplug it, and the Windows logo starts to load, I plug it back in just for kicks and it freezes up again. Then I unplug it again, and it resumes. Only when the Windows 7 swirling logo has finished swirling can I plug my phone back in safely without any hangup. I wonder if all Androids do this. Anyone know?
 
Adam, I'm glad you posted. This verifies it's not just me that's got this crazy problem.

Also, I can tell you that my old G1 from T-Mobile did not do this, as I always recharged via USB and never had a problem rebooting the computer.
 
Yeah I suspect that 64-bit systems really don't like our Intercepts. There are just so many problems I've heard of and it really makes me dislike the phone. Otherwise it's a pretty good phone..
