interested in rooting nexus

i just got my gsm nexus for at&t this is my first nexus device and after watching videos on the AOKP rom, i must have it!!!

however theres one small problem, ive never rooted a device before, i basically know nothing and it always kinda made me nervous not knowing anything about rooting a phone...can anyone show me the easiest fastest way to root my nexus and install aokp? this is all really overwhelming lol

Wugs Toolkit is one of the easiest ways. Check out the root subforum.
Just remember unlocking your bootloader will completely wipe your phone so backup everything on your computer first.
