Interesting Articles.. post some interesting articles that other might enjoy.

Just in case it applies to someone who isn't following our discussion in the Note 7 Forum but frequents the Lounge, there are multiple sources reporting that Samsung could issue a GLOBAL RECALL of the Note 7, possibly as early as this weekend:

http://phandroid.com/2016/09/01/sam...ng-to-issue-a-worldwide-galaxy-note-7-recall/

If this happens, there are going to be some very ill people out here... including ME. I'd better get a FREE Galaxy Note 8 out of this next year!

:mad::mad::mad:

Yeah... so far, only 35 known cases of Note 7s exploding have been reported, and apparently the common element among them is the use of third-party cables instead of Samsung OEM cables. Well, that's a pretty common occurrence, so I'm hopeful that Samsung will do whatever it takes to make it right. Meanwhile, they're taking a beating stock-wise over this: they were so rushed to get the Note 7 to market to beat the iPhone 7 that somebody didn't test something. Now this.

I've officially seen it all.
I'm certain others are already there.....But a quick reminder just how funny he was.:D
Ballin'.
Ballin'er.......
Ballin'est.!!!

Edit: By the time I posted this, The Chief's post didn't look the same as when I started writing.....Hmmmm.
It's OK...... I'm definitely used to looking the fool, and explaining my behavior after the fact.:p

2Nd Edit: Apparently, the glitter capsules are safe for, but not intended for human consumption......"Please do not eat these pills." they say.

Until I get orders directly from @psionandy , I'm bumpin' those ballin' pills back like they were peanut M+M's, yo.
Now please excuse me for a moment; While I don my safety classes and bless the world with my morning gift.:confused:

I was old when I first did most of those things. I say you are old if you can remember sitting around the radio listening to a good play. Or getting your first TV that got three stations and they all went off the air at midnight. Remembering the first family car that had an automatic transmission. Getting a record player that would play 45's.... yep... if you remember these things.. you are old.

^^^^^^
Don't disagree in the least, (and nothing new or truly inspired to say here)..... But have a sense that it's a very difficult thing to put one's finger on, when one "gets old".....A moving target, to be sure. For purposes of this blah, blah, blah, I would peg the real turning point of "the scale" at the mid to late 1800's....The progress of human existence is very non linear; From cave dweller to horse owner, to iron horse passenger, to horseless carriage, to Tower Eiffel, to Wright Flier, to "One giant step", to interstellar voyager".......

Everyone on this site occupies some odd point on the curve of "change over time".....Somewhere in the neighborhood between "where it was mostly flat", and where it was "darn near straight up".

In short, when "you get old" (or feel that you have gotten old) depends very much on when you live, and how society evolves around you. Up until 1860 or so, give or take......society and technology did all relentlessly, but slowly advance...... But not so rapidly that the changes were dramatically noticeable over the course of an average lifespan.

Without a doubt, our great grandparents saw some significant changes in the world over their lifetimes; But on average, they all still lived nearly their entire lives in conditions very similar to those of their own parents; As did all generations before.
My grandparents witnessed very significant changes in the world over their lifetimes, but it took them half of their lives to arrive at a point where they might reasonably have felt separated from the generation before.
My parents felt that very same level of alienation from my grandparents.....By the time they were 20. This was not merely timeless, youthful rebellion, but a genuine sense that they were indeed living in a distinctly different world from that of the generation prior.
Things happened even faster for myself and my generation......The changes to society and technology progressed even more rapidly, when measured against a "unit lifespan".....The events of 25 years prior seemed like ancient history.
And while generation Y (those smart alecs who think they have) surely left me in the dust:p......Their day in the sun is now almost over.:D (Dear lord, it has been 15 years......Are we still talking about your precious Blackberry and the twin towers?):(
What remains? Mostly nostalgic articles about things that remind us of our recent/ancient past......And the more laudable, age old quest to find some common ground with the giants that came before us, through art, literature, and philosophy.:)

^^^ Yes the pace of progress over the last 50 years has been amazing. I find it staggering that when I was born, there was no such thing as a personal computer. In fact a computer would fill a room. Yet now I have many times that computing power in the palm of my hand.
I think the world was very confusing to my grandparents. But I wonder if we'll ever again witness such a spectacular rate of change? Will life for my children be much different to what it is now?

I think tech will advance quickly and more quickly over time...
new tech helps to develop better tech and faster...
it just keeps snowballing ...

once true AI is developed.. this will greatly speed up every tech development...
things will explode..
and the shit will hit the fan! or we will jump into the NEXT phase of human development / expansion.
this ticking bomb ... can explode at any time!

I don't know, we're reaching the physical limits of silicon based computer hardware, so the rate of progress is slowing. Things can only get so small. The next huge step forward will be quantum, or photonic based computers, but it's still in the theoretical stage.

True AI is just a dream at this point. A lot of AIs operate on a rule based system, but the amount of data required is massive. We can't replicate the way the human brain works in terms of it making connections and learning.
Although I think someone made a system that passed the Turing test, so that's a start.

sure.. there is a huge hurtle with hardware...
but true networking computing.. would be a way to build a temp bridge to held develop AI power.

then the AI would help develop - research a new hardware that would truly jump that hurtle.

and then......
Bloom.. or Boom

Not really sure I want to live in a world where computers are making important decisions.
Although given the state of the world with humans in charge, the chances are it could be a big improvement.
