Good thinking OTD. I can definitely see the brand loyalty idea working for HTC. I love their products, so long as they work. If Froyo can make the Eris a solid phone, I think HTC will have found a great following.
Not sure if it is Verizon spending the money on the update. HTC will be getting the update for 2.2 with Sense together regardless. It will then be up to Verizon on whether they want to distribute it or not. HTC could also make it available via download if Verizon doesn't want to go through the trouble. It would be a great way for HTC to build brand loyalty in the Android world.
Good thinking, but the only problem I see with that is that Verizon will still have to support the phones with the 2.2 update, so in the end it would still be Verizon's call whether or not they want to push the update and do all that other stuff.
Personally, I think they should be required to support their phones for 1 year after they stop selling them... I mean, u get a 1 yr warranty from the manufacturer... so even if u buy it the last day they sell the product, they still have to "support" it for another year, even if VZW isn't selling it... For that reason, we deserve at least maintenance updates, if not full android OS updates, for another year...
