Alright so I just remembered today that when i purchased my Thunderbolt, the guy at the verizon store put in a SIM card and said all the 4G phones will now have a SIM. So i just thought about this today. AT&T allows people to switch phones by just moving the SIM card from one phone to the other. What if i were to take out my SIM and put it in another 4G verizon phone. Would i be able to use that phone with no problems and no need to contact verizon.

i assume you mean any SIM-requiring 4G phone - TB, Charge, Rev. I believe you'd still have to call in and switch the phone ESN (or rather, IMEI) on the account, regardless. And wouldn't work at all on the other SIM phones that use it for Global (Bold, Inc2, Droid2/3, etc)
So if i had a 2-year contract, would i have to pay a charge with the method you just brought up.

Aside from whatever price you purchase your "new" phone at (as in, if you were to buy a Charge outright, to replace your current phone), no, you shouldn't be charged for an ESN change at all. Of course, it'll cost you a bunch for the phone at retail, but that would be the only charge incurred.
