interference from radio on edge

When my phone switches to edge I get lots of radio noise like loud Morse code. It gets so bad I have been turning off my phone. I use pandora and plug it into my car so I hate to turn it off. It is fine on 3g+ How can I stop the radio noise?

You could turn off data network mode but that would prevent Pandora from working as well (unless near WiFi).

I recall this same radio interference with other phones I owned. I don't think you can have EDGE, Pandora (or other streaming/data services), and no radio interference all at once.
