Internal and external memory. Is it worth it?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 which has a shocking 181mb of internal storage, It has an external SD Card of 1.85Gb storage. I plan to install many apps (not hundreds) on my phone, is it wise to get a new android phone with more storage, or should I continue using my phone, and use micro SD cards to store memory?

Also, what is the highest amount of storage there is in a micro SD card?

Regards,
Playrules.

If you are happy with the phone get a external SD card ( 2-4.......64 GB max storage,I doubt you will ever need one as high as that) install-move your apps to SD card. I agree 181mb of internal storage is a joke, factory installed apps take most of the storage anyway, unfortunately early budget phones came with a 2 GB internal storage, so I bought a 4 GB external SD card for a few pounds .When you are downloading apps, music, pictures etc make sure they are stored in external SD card

The Ace is showing its age now, so a new, more up-to-date phone will give you not only increased internal storage but also a current OS version. The latter will allow you to use more apps as many recently developed require an Android version higher than 2.3.x.

The highest capacity currently available is 64GB. I've seen 128GB cards listed on eBay etc but afaik none of the major manufacturers (Sandisk, Lexar, Samsung etc) have actually announced their availability, so I doubt they're genuine.

I use up almost 2GB of my phone's internal memory for apps. It all depends on your usage, but just be reminded that as long as you go cheap, all you'll find is limitations. Angry Birds alone uses up 30MB.

Even if you love your current phone, I suggest to upgrade to a more modern phone. Even if you can move your apps to SD Card, not all apps will allow you to do this. When I had my first android phone, Motorola Backflip, it only had 256MB of internal memory. I used a 16 GB SD card and after a year, I had to delete apps because of running out of apps space. I have an Atrix 4G with 16GB on internal storage. 2 GB for apps storage and 10 GB for my use. I have a 32 GB SD card as well. I have over 200 apps to which 75% are for productivity and the other 25% games. Its been over two years now since my purchase and I still have over 1.4 GB of internal storage, 300 MB of apps storage and 12 GB of SD card storage. My phone is my all in one mobile device. (I don't own any other devices.)

All that said, if you are going to be downloading a lot of apps, saving documents, taking pictures, etc. Get the highest Internal memory phone you can afford. Save all your personal stuff to internal memory so if you ever lose or phone gets stolen, they can't get into you files. (Unlike an SD card that they can just remove from the phone and mount on a computer to view the files.) Also, remember that you will never be able to use the maximum storage rated for that device. (Once they install the OS and stock apps.)
