Internal Memory Help!

Ok, so i'm sure this problem has been asked plenty of times, but I've looked through as many forums as I could, and could not find one exactly like my problem. So i've constantly had issues with my internal memory for a year now. I finally did a factory data reset because I was sick of dealing with the "low storage space" notification. I then proceeded to install previous apps that I had before, but way less than before. The memory was fine for a little bit. It then started depleting drastically after downloading just a few new apps. I started getting the "low storage space" notification again. So I cleared data on most apps that I could and uninstalled most of the apps. Now i'm left with mostly factory apps with maybe 5 downloaded apps. This can not be normal. And also at least once a day it'll give me the "less than 512 kb" notification, then i go to the SD/Phone Storage tab and it restores back to normal, but mostly after I restart my phone it goes back to how much space I really have. It's really irritating because I thought by getting this phone that I would be able to have lots of apps.Seems like I can't get away from this problem. I'm pulling my hair out over this situation..AHH! Thanks in advance to anyone that helps :)
 
Are you moving applications to your sd card? Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > SD card. From there you can see what apps can be moved to your sd card. That should help free up some space. I'm saying this assuming you are not rooted... If the phone is rooted you have a lot more options for internal memory management.

I've already moved all the apps that I could to the SD card. My phone isn't rooted though. I'm beginning to think it's a virus of some sort or something because I don't know what else it could be. You can literally count on one hand how many apps i have on my phone that I downloaded. This problem is getting to be a bit ridiculous. I might have to resort to yet another factory data reset because I can't figure out what the problem is. Thanks for your suggestion though :)
 
Email and Facebook are 2 apps that creep up in eating up memory. Clear data and cache in both and log back in to them again.

But, rooting would be the best option. My wife's shift has over 250+ MB of memory left with all the apps she wants.
 
I cleared the data and cache from Facebook and it brought my internal memory back to 73mb. Exited out and went back to manage applications and the memory went to 60mb instantly. I really don't understand what's going on with my phone and I'm beginning to think that this specific problem is only unique to me because I've searched and searched through threads and the solutions never really applied to me. I don't have anyone who could help root my phone because although I'm pretty decent when it comes to technological understanding, I don't think I'm savvy enough to be able to root my own phone :p but also, (a bit random) but the HTC Evo Shift only has a maximum of 432MB of internal memory storage. That seems extremely miniscule compared to other phones so I'm thinking I got the wrong phone for my lifestyle lol (I'm a chronic app downloader but can't seem to do that with this phone).
 
Have you clear cache from all your apps? I noticed you did your Facebook cache. Sometimes those will creep too.

I'm having similar issues and am looking to backup all my data, settings, and saved passwords before performing a reset.
I have no desire to root my phone, do I have any options?
 
I've been fighting this battle for a long time. Anything that can go on the SD card is on the SD card, and I'm having to clear the stored data from Maps, Facebook and Twitter multiple times a week. Looking at the number of installed items and their size, I'm quite convinced that the numbers don't add up: There are maybe ten items over two megs, only three over ten megs, most of the rest between 100 and 300 K, and less than a hundred and fifty items, total; so how can that add up to the alledged 281 megs the phone is claiming I've used up?

My guess is that when system apps update, they just add on rather than overwriting, and those steal space from the user partition without notification.
 
I've come to the same situation and conclusions as you have. No great solutions outside rooting yet, thought.
