Help Internal Memory Keeps Changing

I have had internal memory problems too. I'm afraid to root my phone - I don't want to screw it up (and there are so many different threads of advice).
I got App2SD and Astro File Manager - so I can clear the cache, and back up and delete little used apps.
I freed up a good 20 MB of internal phone storage, so I think I have a system that will work until I can afford a phone with better internal storage.
HOWEVER...... the amount of internal memory keeps changing! I figured, if I clear the cache with App2SD, and haven't put any new apps on the internal memory (there are some on the SD), the internal memory would stay about the same.
Can anyone tell me what is causing the changes?

Thanks!

yes it will keep changing. you have u clear the devik-cache in data folder. but u cant do that unless u root. i was afraid of rooting too but i did, worked fine. i did not flash though. just use one click root, find in this forum. u can remove bloat ware, get more internal memory. battery life has also improved (this is what i believe). u can also remove apps from start up. so rooting is good :)))
