Internal Memory (or something) Problem - my galaxy s2 is being a douche

emurocks

Lurker
I opened an app, which crashed, so I turned my phone off. When I turned it back on, it took ages to start up and then I was confronted with the 'Welcome to your android smartphone' screen. After a small panic, turning it off and on again, I followed the onscreen instructions and set up my google account again and found all my settings and apps were still there, kind of, but now nothing works.

I think it's the internal memory that caused the problem, I knew I hadn't much space left, but it must have been full... Now none of my apps that use internal memory will open, some apps haven't appeared at all and I am receiving a stream of 'Force Close' messages even when I'm not trying to do anything. When I go into Gallery, no data from the internal memory shows up, making me worry that I lost all my stuff.

I took the microSD card out and took things off it, but everything with the SD card seems fine. I plugged the phone into my laptop, connected USB and started moving my photos and videos over (of which I have a lot). All the data is in the internal memory when I view the folder on my laptop, but doesn't appear to work when the phone's in use. I deleted about 400 photos, but I cant get any more off my phone - everytime I start the copying process, the phone disconnects itself from the computer after one or two files!? This means that there's about 2GB of mp4 video on there that I can't delete in Gallery because it doesn't seem to exist there, and I can't delete by connecting USB storage because the connection stops whenever I try to do anything

This has me baffled... It came from nowhere and I feel like I've tried everything. I turned it on using the safe mode thing (holding volume+, home and power), and rebooted it - but that had no effect. I removed about 12 apps to clear space. In settings, it says there is 1.15GB of free internal memory, so atleast the phone knows the internal memory is there. I'm not a tech genius and need some help. I don't want to do a factory reset because there's stuff on the internal memory that I do not want to lose (like the videos), but it's starting to look like the only option...

Suggestions? Or explanations? Or anything really I'm so fed up with this

Hello and welcome to Android Forums emurocks! :)

Sorry to learn you are having problems.

Unfortunately, sometimes a Factory Data Reset is the only answer in situations like this as it is the only way of clearing a corrupted Dalvik cache on an un-rooted phone.

However, before doing that I would suggest that you boot in to Recovery Mode, VOL: UP+HOME+POWER, and select the option to, "Wipe cache partition", and then reboot your phone to see if that helps as it clears out any detritus from the cache partition and does not affect your data.

Good luck!
