Help Internal Memory vs SD Card

Hi Kids! Long time since I have been here - could be a good thing, I guess.

I went to download a song yesterday, and it failed saying that there was not enough memory. I understand that videos, pictures, and music is stored on the SD card, but I truly didn't think that I had THAT much on there.

I go to 'manage apps,' and notice that there are 7 apps listed under the SD card tab. I thought that all apps were installed to the internal memory? Should they be there? These same 7 are also listed under the 'downloaded,' and 'all' tabs which leads me to believe that they are actually installed internally?

Does that make sense? Am I missing something?

I feel that I should be able to utilize all the space that I have internally because it is just sitting there!

...and no, I am not rooted.

...should it ask me where I want to install it or is that a setting that I change? I have been looking around and messing with it, but I might not be looking for the right thing or in the right place. I am still learning!

When I go to 'manage apps,' and look at the SD card tab it says 1.9gb used and 1.3mb free. On my 'downloaded' tab it says 362mb used and 6.2gb free!

In that location it tells me that SD card has total 1.86gb and 0.00B available. I did go in and delete a few older pictures and some other stuff, and was able to get the 2 songs that I wanted.

I just don't understand why it is installing apps to the sd card? But if it is 'full,' and I can't download anymore songs how can it put apps on there?
