Help Internal memory

Stormy

Lurker
Can I add more internal memory to my ZTE? For some reason (which I am sure is a stupid one) I can not transfer aps to sdcard. I just replaced my LG Lucky with this ZTE phone, never thinking I was going to lose storage space.

Hey Susan, welcome to our AndroidForums! :)

Unfortunately, you really can't "add" to your internal storage--you've got what you've got :(.

I see on your profile that you're talking about the ZTE Paragon and it seems like its a 4GB device and is running Android 4.4 KitKat?

That's a pretty slim amount of memory, so I'm guessing it's a bit of a low-end device.

Google did make changes starting with one of the KitKat releases that restricted or eliminated moving apps to the SD card--to the chagrin of many, I'm sure.

Not sure what else to tell you--perhaps someone else will have a suggestion to help you.

Cheers!

With only 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of storage there's very little you're going to be able to do as far as improving the performance of this phone. Even allowing for an additional microSD card where you can at least store documents, music and video files, and other personal data, this model is by design limited to basic smartphone tasks. For your own peace of mind, adjust your expectations on what you can do with it accordingly. KitKat will run OK within 1 GB of RAM but don't be surprised if you often run into lags and hesitations launching some apps. Also a good part of that 4 GB of storage memory is taken up by the operating system itself, that's unavoidable in any phone but much more obvious when there's only 4 GB involved.
Offhand I'd recommend migrating to phone with better hardware specs, at the very minimum one with at least 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. If budget is a big factor, maybe a refurbished phone will suffice. Take a look at Swappa or Gazelle, both sell pre-owned phones that have been checked and vetted:

ZTE devices are usually rooting friendly, if you can root your phone either by yourself or with help from someone, there is a chance to add memory to your phone using a SD card.

Yeah, I didn't suggest rooting since that's a bit of a jump for some folks.

There's also the option of clearing cache in various apps--especially things like your browser--but that's really just a band-aid for a limited resource device, I'm afraid.

Any links to sites on how to root a ZTE Paragon? All I could find where references to the notorious Kingo (a last resort option, like most one-click, 'thank you for letting us compromise your phone's privacy' rooting utilities).

Oops, I should have been more specific, a rooting process that doesn't involve one of those quick-click rooting utils like KingRoot, Kingo, iRoot, etc. Generally those one-click rooting apps also add their own cruft, collecting and sending personal data to anonymous servers overseas. I wouldn't recommend one of these apps to the OP if she did show an inclination to root her ZTE unless there weren't any viable alternatives, and I'm very doubtful even a rooted 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB storage, 800x480 resolution phone is not going to be much more useful than a non-rooted one.

And no I will never try iRoot, I don't care to intentionally open a privacy exploit into my already rooted phone (S3).

Thank you all for your replies. I need to hang someone at Tracfone for suggesting this phone lol I hate it when you get a customer support that pushes their hard to move inventory or problem phones rather than actually giving sound advice. The rooting idea peeked my interest but in this situation it would be easier to just get a different phone. I only need two things on my phone and that is a game for those waiting room or time to kill moments and Starbucks app for mobile ordering ;) I know I can turn things off and clear caches and such but those days were in my PC world. Been there done that. ;) I cant stand my devices telling me I do not have enough room to grow. lol I have always thought highly of Google. What were they thinking taking that away? Thank you for your help and links. I may pick your brains on the next phone choice before ordering, if that is OK ;) Thanks again

Don't be to quick to blame Google for this. Google just maintains and supports Android, the operating system. It's not even a matter where Google charges anything for Android itself.
Focus your ire on Tracfone or ZTE for making and marketing this phone, both being fully aware of the minimum hardware specs required and of what most consumers do with their phones. It's essentially just a money grab for Tracfone and ZTE, they're profiting off of your wallet.
