Root Internal storage problem after partitioning

Newbie
Hi Guys,

I am very much a virgin when modding mobiles, so please bare with me.

I have rooted my Desire, I tried a few ROMS and my mobile is now running Supernova Classic iData2SD.

After upgrading my SD card to a 32Gb, I partitioned it with gparted. Im not sure if I have done this correctly as my internal memory is still reading 148mb.

I have partitioned it a few times, but the last time I did it as follows...

Linx Swap - 32mb
Ext 2 - 512mb
FAT32 - Size was the rest of the SD card

Can someone tell me if this is the correct way to partition it?

Is there anything else I have to do?

Also, once I have the partitioning sorted out, if in the future I decide to change the ROM, do I just boot into recovery mode and install from the SD card and dont have to make any other changes?

Many thanks in advance. ;)

Generally, when partitioning you set it up with the fat32 as primary, and the ext3 or ext4 following, but also as primary (I recommend 1 Gb) . Ext2 is an older standard, and most ROMs use exy3 or ext4. Swap as the ROM requires.

I've requested this is moved to the root forum.

The partition looks ok, not 100% sure on the swap size, I believe mine was set to 0.

Have a look at Quick System info from the market, just to make sure it's set.

You will probably need to activate a2sd using terminal commands.
Look for terminal emulator from the market, I don't know the commands off by heart, I always forget them.
I believe SUroot knows them but they are about somewhere.

Also, when you flash a new ROM in the future, you will need to look at the requirements for that particular ROM.
Basically you just put the .zip on the root of your SD-card and flash it from recovery (after the mandatory nandroid back up ;)), but as each ROM may have different requirements (there are even Sense ROMs that need two EXT3-partitions!) it is always a good idea to make sure you are set up correctly before you flash. Especially if you change hboot partitions...

Thanks for the info guys.

Ok, I will try a 1Gb Ext 4 partition tomorrow with a swap and FAT32 and see how it goes.

Actually, that seems to ring a bell when I read your post Flumme, that I had read it before somewhere to make it Ext 4 for Supernova.

Is it this ROM? SuperNova ROM

If so, EXT4 is what you need, however if it's EXT3 or EXT2 it will autoconvert to EXT4 - so no need to worry. I'd go for 1 Gb, though. Doesn't mention any swap size, so you most probably don't need it.

It is Supernova ROM.

Ok, I repartitioned the SD card, Fat32 partition first, then a Ext 4 1Gb, both primary.

Then installed Supernova ROM from SD card in recovery mode.

My phone is constantly rebooting just now, getting to the HTC quitely brilliant part of the boot up then restarting. Its in a loop....

Help please!

I cant enter recovery mode either by pressing power and - volume button

Ok, got the phone to boot again by removing the battery.

I unchecked fast boot, when the phone booted back up and rebooted into recovery.

I chose wipe data/factory reset in recovery then reinstalled the ROM and rebooted.

I installed quick system info as Tyseyh suggested, but the internal storage is still showing 148Mb.

Im not sure what to do next!

Did you follow all the instructions in the supernova thread? It's not a straight forward flash. Anyway that's the only place you'll get a meaningful answer

I have read them several times, but there is obviously something Im still not doing! :(

ok, so I have totally redone my phone again. Heres what I did...

Deleted previous partitions so SD card has no partitions.

Partitioned the Scandisk 32Gb Class 4 sd card using GParted live to Both primary partitions. The first partitioned was FAT32 and second Ext4. No space left on card.

Rebooted laptop then copied the Supernova ROM, A2SDKillerV5 and Data2SDV11 to the SD card.

Booted phone into recovery and chose to wipe data/factory reset. Then the Supernova ROM was installed and also the A2SDKillerV5 before rebooting the phone.

Once rebooted, only setup wireless network to setup the phone before rebooting. I did check the internal storage at this point which was reading 154Mb (37.4 free) and SD card 30.8Gb (30.6 free).

I rebooted into recovery again to install Data2SDV11 from the SD card, then rebooted normally. Unfortunately the internal storage still reads 154Mb!

One thing I dont understand is, how do I find out if my phone is S-Off or S- On?

Any more pointers cuz this is really starting to annoy me?

Many thanks in advance.

Try activate the script with the Terminal Commands.

I don't know them off hand though, I really should put them in my sig.

Phone off - load bootloader via power on and volume down.

It will say s-off or s-on.
Unless you used Revolution it will be s-on

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure how to activate the script? Where do I find it?

I'm guessing I need to install terminal emulator, but not sure what to do from there?

Where does A2sdkiller script come from? You sure this isn't interfering with the Rom install, as I couldn't see any ref to it from a skim of the instructions?

I'm sure you'd remember if you have also S-off'd your phone - doesn't seem to matter for this Rom anyway as long as you haven't changed hboot, which you'd also remember doing ;)

Still think this is something related to the install process rather than anything else.

Ok, my phone is s-on, so I have redone my phone again and tried the following...

Repartitioned - rebooted into recovery then installed ROM then ran Darktremor, followed by rebooting phone normally.

Not sure if Darktremor is a quick install, but it seems to be. The list finished like this...

[ ] Mount Partition: System
[ ] Mount Partition: Data
...

[ ] Unmount partition System
[ ] Unmount partition Data
[*]Installation complete

All of the [ ] Are empty until the Installation complete. Is this normal?

I noticed on the installation of the ROM that all had
[*] once they were done.

Anyway, the internal memory is still not what its meant to be. :-(

P.S. One thing I have noticed is, my phone is displaying a blue LED once the phone boots up.

I have made the Ext4 partition 1Gb, so should it not report nearly that?

Its currently reading 40 odd Mb space left.

No. Please read our root memory faq. It explains how a2sd works. It also explains how to get the best out of dark tremor (moving dalvik cache, if you haven't already).

Then.I reckon we're good to release you into the wild ;)

:D That sounds exciting!

Ok, nice one SURoot. Will give it a read then no doubt I will post back!

Thanks!

I downloaded terminal emulator and ran the following commands...

Type "su" and press enter
Type "a2sd cachesd" and press enter.

Internal memory now reads 134Mb, so it has cleared out some stuff.

Ive installed quick system info and it reads...

SD card storage total 28.71Gb, Free 28.55

A2SD storage Total 0.98Gb, Free 0.88Gb

Internal Storage Total 148Mb, Free 134Mb

System Storage Total 250Mb, Free 3.85Mb

System Cache Total 40Mb, Free 34.16Mb

Memory Total 405Mb, Free 127Mb, Idle 14.21Mb

Does this look about right?

Also, Am I right in saying that A2SD will automatically install all new apps onto SD card?

Looks good to me.

All app installs will go to sd-ext unless you move them by hand to sd. Remember that the device thinks that the ext partition is internal, so apps "on phone" are actually on the partition.

Ok, thanks Hadron.

Its just that I have seen screenshots of others with the Internal storage about 700Mb, but I guess thats because they used something other than A2SD and it reports differently?
