Root [International] 4.4 roms!

funkylogik

share the love peeps ;)
Anyone had/having good/bad experiences on one?
I tried one of the early CM11 builds but Ext Sd wouldnt work (ive heard theres fixes though)
Im kinda waiting for the hybrid roms doing it well and for Xposed Framework to support it.
Just makin this thread for anyones experiences :)

Also, does anyone understand this having to have an Odexed rom for ART to work etc?

In general, a kitkat thread for the i9300 :beer:

Gonna give this OmniROM a try. Seems to be a lot of noise about it and it's even got its own section on xda

Best ive tried so far. Everything works but hotspot but i dirty flashed and it works for others
UPDATE aparently a clean flash fixes hotspot.
Gota say this is really smooth n fast. Just miss my extras.
Aparently the Xposed dev has his nexus5 so hopefully we'l see it on 4.4 soon.
When that happens im gona use it to do as many of my customisations as i can instead of the rom's customisation settings so that TiBu will back them up n make changin rom a lot easier :-)

Omg i just changed to ART in dev' options and look what happened to quadrant at 1.4gh/s (stock speed)

Compared to this before changing uploadfromtaptalk1385112088429.jpg
Rebooting took ages but opening apps seems so fast now :-)

I'm gonna do a factory reset to clean some crap out then might dual boot in and out of OmniROM as it doesn't look too stable at the minute.

That ART sounds interesting, anything that boots apps up quicker is a bonus in my book!

What kernel you usin to dual boot mate? I like to use the kernal that comes with these roms, its usually well optimised.
ART is quite a shock how fast it is.
I love carbon for all my tweaks but im gona keep this rom on all day n see how battery goes (seems good already) :)
Lookin forward to the roms gettin built from this ;-)

At the minute I can't stop using yanks kernel but I'll have to use something like devil (I think) or siyah. Not had a look round yet. I may just bite the bullet and run it as a daily driver instead.

I like to think since kitkat is made for 512 ram devices it'll be blindingly fast on the S3! I only wanna try OmniROM because there's so much hype about it tbh.

Will flash it tomorrow at some point

The main thing ive heard folk sayin about Omni is the battery indcator ring on the lockscreen slider? People moaning at other roms to include it :)
I use DynamicNotifications (beta) as my locker anyway.
ART seems to make a stunning difference tbh mate. Just have to see how battery goes.
On carbon i could get 24h standby with 50% left or over 3.5-4h straight screentime so i wana test kitkat. When i go2bed ill take phone off charge and see. I cant see screentime changing much

Ive noticed that in the screen shots, i like it!

Just had a look at the nightlies and it doesnt include SU so gotta separately install it, ugh making life hard for me :p

Ive not seen over 3 hours screen on time since i left TW! Thats unbelievable!

Man i was gettin 4n half hrs straight screentime on illusion 4.2 streaming youtube lol.
48h Standby time is so easy with DS or Greenify
Sherlock if you have decent broadband could you upload Temask's latest for me bro?

What nightlies by the way mate? I havent been flashing the Update SU zip lately and things have been fine, think the playstore update sorted that?

Weirdly i get very limited battery drop when using Youtube but standard web browsing destroys my phone. I use Greenify but havent tried any other battery saving apps :thumb:

Sorry i meant the xda thread but the ROM is still in the nightliess stage at the minute and it was mentioned in that about needing to install SU after each flash.

Hav u tried this instead of greenify mate https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.batrsaver
I much prefer it to greenify because it seems to do the same thing but wakes apps for a minute at a set interval so you can get notifications.
It seems (to me) to use less battery itself than greenify too.
I have the on/off widget on a homescreen n use it that way. When im out i turn it on (texts and calls still come through) then when im at home i turn it off to get g+, fb etc not's in real-time. When its on, on carbon i got 24hrs standby with 50% left man

Just flashed latest Temasek unofficial CM11 (23/11/2013)

Seems nice so far. Will feedback after a bit more use. About to restore my titanium backups and will then swap to ART :D

Nice one bro. You clean flash it? Can u check wifi hotspot and Ext Sd for me mate? :)
What gapps u usin btw? PA?

I'm using wifi tethering to post this from my PC :)

ext sd works fine.

I did a clean flash and yes, I'm using PA gapps.

It seems very smooth and fast. Only bug I've come across so far is that the app switcher doesn't always respond and open up apps.

I haven't switched to ART yet because I haven't finished setting everything up yet. I wanted to try it on dalvik first because there are some apps I have that apparently don't work on ART.

Oh yeah, it has a battery ring on the lock screen slider...

You want me to send you a dropbox link?

Anyone having issues with Google Services eating battery too much? I'd swear Google really screwed something here. It won't let my phone sleep properly.

Apparently it's the SuperSU v1.75 app causing it.

Finally got a flashable SU, took me ages to find the updated CWM, had GApps fall to download about 3 times and got last night's Omni. Gonna flash tomorrow. All this for a ROM still in Alpha stage :p

I havent sherlock. I left phone unplugged overnight 10hrs and it used 47% but media server was by far the biggest user. I use DS battery saver though (excellent)

I have had the same problem recently:

This only happened recently, and I think it was because I updated a particular google app, but I don't know which. I think this because this rom (Temasek) wasn't giving me this battery drain yesterday.

Needless to say, I won't be updating any google apps until this is sorted.

So, I tried turning off loads of sync switches in the google account settings but it didn't make any difference.

In the end I fixed the problem by reflashing the zip of the Paranoid Android gapps to get rid of the offending google apps.

It now seems to be back to normal:
