Root [International] Factory reset doesn't unroot

Hi all.

A couple of months ago, I tried to unroot my Samsung GT-i9500. It didn't work. The process was fine, it did say the phone was rooted, but it simply didn't happen. It wasn't bricked or anything, but every now and then I get a "SuperSU tried to access the root, so I blocked it" message, which I could easily dismiss. I also tried to "unroot" the device, but that didn't work, either. I'm not immensely tech savvy, so I just left my phone in "root limbo."

Now I cannot update the software because Kies says my phone is modified. I did a factory reset but even that didn't get rid of SuperSU. So now my phone is rooted, unrooted, modified and un-updateable all at once.

Is there an easy and surefire way to completely return the phone to its factory settings? I don't mind losing data or whatever. Just wanna get rid of SuperSU which doesn't even work to begin with.

Thanks in advance.

Ugh... That looks like the stuff that got me into trouble in the first place. Odin and whatnot. I'll give it a go, though. Thanks a lot.

You can try and do it manually . that would put you back at the yellow brick road where you can go the right way the wrong way or the Bricked way

A Factory Data Reset does not un-root you but merely wipes the user data.

To un-root the GT-i9500 you must first un-install any rooted apps and lastly, whilst still rooted, use the, "Cleanup", feature in SuperSU settings for, "Full unroot". You can then download and flash the stock Samsung firmware for your phone model and CSC/Product code as per the instructions and link in #1.5 of the 23 Galaxy S4 models - know yours?

Here's the thing, though. SuperSU is not on my phone. Well, apparently it IS on my phone, because whenever I reset the phone it tries to access the root and gets blocked, but it's not listed under Apps or Downloaded, and a full search of the phone memory doesn't deliver anything. Also, when I go to SuperSU on Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu) it says "installed." I guess all this is because of the botched rooting.

I guess I'll just go back into Odin and see what I can do. FML. Thank you all for the ideas. Lemme know if you think of anything else.

You will need to download SuperSu from the Play store, or re-root you phone again, to install SuperSu before you can uninstall it as described previously.
