Root [International] Firewall without root

Hi all. I have a GS3 that is running Cyanogenmod 11. I have Avast AV in stalled and would like to enable the firewall, when I do it tells me I need root. Is there a way to grant root to just the avast app as I don't want to run with root enabled all the time.

Thanks all :)

Root isn't something that's "enabled", it's a single file (su) that an app calls when it wants superuser status. The superuser app (Superuser or SuperSU are the common ones) allow you to decide whether to grant that status to an app that's requesting it (so a virus can't just get root and wipe your phone out, for example. All it has to do is issue the su rm /* -r command and you'll have to reflash the phone.)

(It's been a long time since I ran Cyanogen, but I believe it's rooted as it comes, so Avast should merely be requesting root, not complaining that you need it.)

With CyanogenMod now you can specifically turn root on and off, there's an "enable root access" option. You can select enable for apps or enable for apps and ADB.
If I select enable for apps then Titanium Backup and other root apps work, if I don't enable that then the apps don't work.

I just don't want to enable root for all apps really so was hoping there was a way to grant it to a specific app.

EDIT: OK sorted, you can enable root mode then enable avast firewall, it then asks for root permission. You can then configure rules that you need, once configured you can turn root off and it continues to work fine, you just need to enable root mode again if you need to change rules :)

who is your provider? this really needs to be moved to the GS3 all things root forum, but i need to know who you have as your provider.

moved you to the internantion ATR forum.
