My backup didn't seem to complete the way it did on my previous devices. I got a weird message and nothing saying the backup was completed successfully. any thoughts?

the last two lines when I try and do a backup are

"unable to find volume."
"Error finding an appropriate backup handler."

I tried to restore a backup I did before I tried to install Google Wallet because every time I reboot I get a box that says "Android Is Updating" and then it proceeds to "optimize" like 100 programs which takes several minutes. When I try to restore it says that the MD5 sum is invalid. Any thoughts?

I even wiped my phone and started over from scratch thinking I messed something up. I keep getting an MD5 sum mismatch when I try to restore from the backup...

Did you change the name of your backup?

I'm beginning to think backups aren't working with the current recovery. I've seen this issue reported elsewhere as well

Nope. Normally at the end of the backup it says "Generating MD5 Sum" but it never gets that far here. I'm wondering if all these people who did their backups that says they worked have tried to actually restore one of their backups. They might be disappointed...

I haven't seen anyone report successful restores yet, I've also seen a few MD5 errors pop up. I haven't flashed CWM yet so I can't test it out, but I hope it works for those who have flashed one of the roms available.

I think the ROMS will work cause I think they flash them with the .ZIP files but the backups are a different story at least in my case...

Yeah I'm not worried about roms working in CWM but restoring a backup could be necessary if there was a bad flash

I agree. In my case something got FUBAR'ed when I tried to install the google Wallet hack and it kept "optimizing" the applications when I rebooted and it would literally take 3-5 min to boot...

I did a backup before installing Google Wallet, i got the "Generating MD5 Sum" after doing it.

I initially did nandroid backup.

Installes google wallet and thought i messed it up and went and did restore..

It worked so i can say i have restored a backup.

And i heard thw optimizing applications is normal. Welcome to 4.0.

I know it is in ROM manager but I was thinking that perhaps you got it from another source and pushed it to your phone rather than installing through ROM manager and maybe the one in ROM manager is corrupt or something...

I flashed mine through rom manager. I started with flashing the gsm one first and when lte was available i flashed that one.

Had to change file name to get it to stick after powering fown.

so the GSM one worked for you? Did you try the backup before you changed the file name? If so did it go the whole way through the backup process before that?

Yes i flashed the gsm recovery on day one probably 15 mins after i got home...

As soon as i flashed it i rebooted into recovery from rom manager and did the nandroid back up. Went all the way through and worked.

15 mins after that i sucessfully restored that back up after flashing google wallet and not fixing permssion i restored my back up fine.

Reflashed google wallet and fixed permissions and all was good.

I didnt rename the file until tonight and now cwm sticks if i turn off phone and boot into recovery manually. Before renaming file if i turned off phone and tried manually i would get exclamtion mark. I would have to boot phone open rom manager and reflash cwm and reboot into recovery from the app.

Actually I FINALLY figured it out around noon today. Look for a folder named ".android_secure" on your SD card and delete it and then try to do the backup. It should complete properly after you delete that....

Make sure you use titanium backup before doing this. ".android_secure" is where portions of apps stored on the SD is located so if you delete the file then it can cause issues with apps stored on the SD.
