Hi people.

After a long time running stock 4.0 I'm now wanting to root. Only problem is reading a while back it was said that you couldn't recovery any of your data after doing so.

Now is there anything like xrecovery that would be about to back my stuff up? Or am I just going to have to settle with losing it all?

Cheers.

PS I will be backing up contacts and pictures etc on my PC so it's just mainly apks

Your market apps should all download automatically if you are going to "Stock" 4.0.4. one thing I would do is hook you Nexus up to your computer and simply copy the complete "drive" to your computer. Then you could just transfer back what you want. I think there is an app or two that will do a simple backup but I can't remember the name. nothing that will backup as much as Titainum Backup without root access though.

Just know that when you unlock the device, it will erase EVERYTHING. so save what you can if you want to.

Titanium BU can be confusing to noobs. The free Astro app will back up your apps to the SDcard nicely and as said, the market will reload them when you activate again.
Astro is good incase you want to disable that and use Astro to load them in the order you like or exclude some of them.

I use SMS to Text Pro to off load and save my texts. Not sure about the non Pro version but it will import them back in too. I really like SMS to Text Pro. It lets me export them to Html, csv or txt. Love the Html. Also by contact or all of them.

You will have to set up your email accounts again. I am yet to find a way to save and export that so I can load email and have it all done.

So,

  1. Drag and drop a copy of the contents of you internal storage. This can be tricky sometimes as it will skip folders. Sometimes you have to go back and pick the ones it skipped. Welcome to the (MTP) protocol.
  2. Back up your apps.
  3. Export your texts if you want.
  4. Flash away.

Thanks for the help. Going to start the back up shortly. Hopefully there's an easy how to guide to follow. Can't wait to start pushing the phones potential
