[International / GSM] USB 3.0 sometimes wonky w/adb and fastboot

scary alien

not really so scary
Guys,

I spent quite a bit of time this weekend using the adb and fastboot utilities for flashing back to stock, rooting and re-rooting, etc. (mostly to update the how-to root guide). I particularly had trouble when trying to flash the phone back to stock using fastboot.

Anyway, I've noticed the occasional hangs in both fastboot and adb while executing a variety of commands (fastboot flash, adb shell, etc.) while plugged-in to a USB 3.0 port on my desktop.

These issues and hangs go away when I switch to a good ole USB 2.0 port.

I've considered that perhaps it really is just an issue with my (new) desktop PC with its new 3.0 ports, but it sort of makes sense to me that these two USB-dependent utilities, might be sensitive to a new protocol like 3.0.

Just thought my experiences might help someone else.

Cheers!

I used USB 3.0 ports to root but I haven't been playing as indepth with fastboot as you. This could explain the issues some people have been having with rooting.

Its mostly been some of the longer running commands (fastboot -w update for example) and many adb sessions where I wanted to navigate around my phone.

For example, last night, I could not for the life of me get a busybox find command to finish (arrrrgh!). Thought is was a problem with my busybox, or root, etc.--it just made me think that there was something else going on.

Using a USB 2.0 port made the issues go away :).
