Root [International] Help. Phone stuck in a boot loop

Nagrom

Android Expert
I've been messing with some xposed modules, and I installed the startup manager one to stop unwanted apps starting when I boot up my phone.

I dont know if thats the cause, as i hadn't even started using it yet, but since then ive I've been unable to boot my device.

Its constantly stuck on the boot screen, and I'm not even able to boot into safe mode, to troubleshoot the problem.
I've got my phone running really sweet, and i REALLY dont want to do a factory reset to solve this issue.

Is this my ONLY option, or is there another way to get it sorted?

Really starting to panic about it now.

Thanks in advance.

Andy

Nagrom, did you try a battery pull? I had the exact same issue with the exact same xposed module. It has all worked fine since, including the module. It is peculiar that a battery pull, wait five minutes and battery back in and reboot cured it when a simple off and reboot five minutes later would not. The thing is everyone's phone is different, and what works OK for one may not work OK for another. I found it hard to get my head around that concept, but the more I learn the more I appreciate the truth in it.

Back in my SGSII days the regular posters of that forum used to be scratching their collective heads trying to help "Syd" out, so much so that the banter and general leg pulling of him, made him a legend and the motto was if it didn't work for Syd it would probably be OK on your phone.

The secret of it all is do a Nandroid before even activating something as simple as an xposed module. Always remember your playing with the "root" of your phone, things can go belly up, then even if you have to start from absolute scratch and reinstall the stock firmware, re root and reinstall a custom recovery to restore it at least you have saved yourself the pain of setting up your device again. It is very rare to see a completely "bricked" device and if you get get into download or recovery mode your fine.

For future receive a bootloop can be gotten out of these ways, in this order of trying.

1) A simple battery pull, wait for 5 mins and try again.

2) In recovery (a bootloop on its own will always let your get to recovery, it is difficult sometimes but the best way is to pull the battery hold the three keys and pop the battery in while holding the three keys. Otherwise it ain't properly a bootloop, just looks like one. ). I digress, in recovery clear cache and dalvik cache.

3) Factory reset (you'll have to rebuild your settings or restore your Nandroid, no big deal).

4) A properly borked phone that you cannot get to recovery, you can factory reset with Odin in download mode, but in my experience a reflash of stock, re root and then flash the recovery you made your Nandroid with, then restoring your Nandroid is pretty painless.

Ahhh.

Like I said, I opted for a full factory wipe.
I'll remember for next time. Mind you my phones running REALLY sweet now after a full clean.

I DO have to install a custom recovery though. That's my next big job.

Did you get apps to writing that guide on the "how to root" thread?

I couldn't see it.

If I get time I'll stick links to the Note 3 version of TWRP's recovery, I can't get a clockworkmod based one to work on my Note 3 any more (usually I would use Philz recovery). kush - the developer of Clockworkmod no longer supports it :(. So TWRP is the only way to go.

Shame clockwork doesn't work anymore. Surprising for such a high end popular phone.

Looking forward to it.

It's clockworkmod recovery for any phone that is no longer supported Nagrom. It is a shame. It worked OK up until the "bug fix" small update for me (v4.4.2 still v 4.4.2) then it's Nandroids wouldn't work properly on restoring. So far TWRP is working OK, but I don't like it.

Here you go, flash the .tar in the PDA section, full instructions and download link from the official site :
