Root [International] Ho do I restore my SG3 using a back up that I made before flashing?

So I have been using paranoid android ROM for a while now and I have encountered a few problems with the APN and I am looking to restore my phone to the original SG3 ROM that I backed up before my previous previous flash to see if it makes a difference.

Can anyone tell me what steps I have to go through in order to safely restore the original back up. I have Philz touch installed BTW.

Thanks

To be honest there's not much more to it then going into recovery and restoring the backup. It will take 5-10 minutes and then everything will be exactly as you left it when you originally made that backup.

I would however do a backup of your current ROM now, and make sure your EFS folder is backed up somewhere (if you haven't done that already. If you have then there's no need to do it again.)

Just out of curiosity - What ROM is the backup? Is it the original one that came with the phone or a different custom ROM?

Yeah go into Philz, backup and restore, restore from (wherever you saved it, SD or SD Ext) and thats it.
Some people wipe first but i dont see the point

P.s, whats wrong with the APN? you can enter it manually, what network u on?

I have created a back up on the EXT SD CARD

How do I back up the EFS?

I have the NEXUS ROM and the original ROM that came with the phone (hopefully)

I started another thread as it is a separate issue, but basically the APN setting keeps coming unticked. I just wanted to restore it to factory settings to see if its the ROM or the phone. I am troubleshooting at the mo and trying to narrow down all possibilities.

You can backup EFS using Ktool app by Hellcat on Playstore mate. Its well worth doing just incase ;)

Thanks. I have to ask, what is EFS?

Ok I have backed up EFS and I have backed up apps via TBU and I have taken a couple of back ups of my current ROM using Philz touch. I think I am ready to go.

Whats next? do I clear davilk cache and then format or is there another way? first time since I have restored anything using Philz touch?

Tbh im not sure but if you lose it, your phone wont connect to your network. It just wont be recognised, like a stolen blocked phone.
Its been happening a lot lately mate, mostly with people goin between custom and stock roms

Ok.

I have just gone in to Philz Touch and I am presented with

WIPE DATA / FACTORY RESET

WIPE CACHE PARTITION

BACK UP AND RESTORE

Do I WIPE data, then cache then restore?

You dont have to but yeah if you want bro
Then backup and restore, restore from ........., find the backup you want, tap it then tap yes and that should be you man
If i was you, id back up the rom youre on now first though

If I delete partition will that format everything on my phone ? As I have back up data that's on the phone also

Data partition? Wont wipe anythin youd notice. Even a full factory wipe (in recovery) wont wipe backups or anything, just apps and their data really.
if youre restoring a nandroid though, its gona replace the whole phone so no need to wipe anything mate

Thanks FL (and CD Plant) for your advice as per usual - I have decided to play it safe and wait until later. I have 39% of battery and I left my charger at home, also I will back up all the data I need in one folder and keep it one copy my PC and the other on the SD Card. Also I am going to need to back up my contacts and sms etc. Best to be prepared rather than blunder in and do something I will regret.

I will update with my progress.

As stated you don't need to wipe anything. Just go into Backup and Restore then choose Restore from Ext Sd card and wait :thumb:

**UPDATE**

I have successfully restored my phone to SG3 STOCK ROM.

After backing up everything under the sun, I was surprised to find out that the restore option restores the entire phone to exactly how I had it before.

Thanks again for all the advice and for making me feel welcome to ask any question no matter how simplified it may be.

I look forward to flashing another ROM and asking for advice shortly.
