Root [International] No mass storage mode - is there a workaround?

jkg

Newbie
Hi All,
Just got my Jelly Bean Note II and disappointed to see that mass storage mode has disappeared.
What is Android thinking?

Is there a workaround to get the drive letters back?

I use automatic backup software to sync my photos, videos, work folders and I have to have drive letters.

Regards
John K

I have a S3 which also has no drive letter. I use a program called FolderSync to backup. I have it automatically sync between my PC and S3 at a set time every day using my local wifi network. It is a great program. I use to do the same as you and wa bummed when I had no drive letter but now I find this a better solution.

Hi Niel,
I haven't tried foldersync yet but have given goodsync a go.
It seems to work well but is very slow for making large file changes.
I keep about 25gb of music, photos and work files and videos.
Still can't believe that they've taken mass storage mode away!

Yeah I've been pissed a lot too. I've been looking for a solution for days, wondering if it was my computer that had a problem. After an update the mass storage just stopped to work. I see the device, the folders and files but when I try to copy it just freezes...

Well **** you Samsung, you removed one of the best features of Android, one that made a difference against iPhone...

I guessthe only option is rooting now...

Bummers...

Hi

You could use
Airdroid
Or
Install Samsung usb drivers on your pc
Or
Use esfilemanager (or other app) and set your note 2 as an ftp server (wireless) and use filezills or similar on your pc ( or infact most browsers)

Hi Roger,
I've tried a few different ways to get around it but they are all slow and cumbersome when trying to keep 25gb of music and data backed up.
The drive mode that my old SGSII had, plus SyncBackSE was a brilliant combo that took just a few seconds each day to plug in and resync.

I don't want to root.
It's a company owned phone and if I brick it, I will get in trouble!

I'm surviving by syncing everything onto dropbox and google drive. But there is a lag time to retreive it on the Note and if I'm out of range I don't get it.
