Root [International] Noob vs Root

Im a complete noob when it comes to Android phones and Rooting... so please bare with me and help me where possible.

I have now read that rooting unlocks your devices true potential. Is this correct. Why else would one want to root it and load a custom rom? I see so many people having issues with things not working properly afterwards. Is it really a good thing to root your phone? The list goes on and on...

One half of me says do it... the other half says leave it alone... I need you guys to tip me over into a direction.

I have a Galaxy Note II GT- N7100. Any advice would be awesome including the best roms and what their pros and cons are.

Kind regards

rooting just gives you total access to your phone/files, you could root your phone and still leave it stock, with rooting you can can run apps like titanium backup etc.

most problems occur when flashing roms/kernels and other mods if your not careful and dont read the instructions that the devs give, but to flash anything you would also have to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM.

my wifes phone is rooted and unlocked with TWRP installed and her phone is still bone stock. my phone is rooted and unlocked running TWRP and jellybeans b22 with saber kernel.

What Chizler said. Rooting your device doesn't mean you HAVE TO install a 3rd party ROM. You can just leave it the way it is after you root. Many people just root in order to be able to uninstall the bloatware that many manufacturers think they have to put on our devices.

Also what carrier are you with, so I can move that to the root section, so you can get more info and advice on rooting your device.

I rooted mine and am still on stock rom but done a hack that changes the sd card (mine is a 64gb) into thinking its the phone, so I now have a phone showing it has about 59gb of space to use. Check on galaxynote2root.com plus he has lots of videos to follow

If you have enough resources, you should leave the phone unrooted. The bloatware can be ignored if the phone is not slowed down by the default apps. If you don't have enough experience, you can brick your device / loose warranty.

rooting and modding soon turns into a hobby. if you dont like working out and understanding problems/your phone better then i wouldnt bother. no rom (including stock) is perfect although some get close! once you start messing yes you can turn your fone into a much more customised and powerful device suited to you but it takes a willingness to learn, adapt and accept there will be bumps on the way :)
