Despite the tongue in cheek nature of my title, i noticed earlier today ( after dropping my phone for around the 3rd tinge today, probably around 300th time since getting it!) That one side of my screen has actually become raised slightly :-(

You can see the thickness of the glass when looking at it side on (looking at the side of the volume rocker) where you can't see the edge of glass from the power side.... I can even push down on the glass where it is raised :-(

You think this is shoddy workmanship or a result of all my dropping? I always use a case of some kind or another though!

No, you need a phone made of structural steel. With a spring "bring-back" holding it to your belt.

In over 20 years in this business (my first cellphone wouldn't fit into the large pocket in a pair of cargo pants) The only time I dropped a phone that wasn't deliberate was when a blacktop parking lot was slick with car exhaust leavings and a slight misty rain, and I lost my footing. (I still have the phone, a Motorola 7868, and you can still see the scar on the back cover where the blacktop "ground" the plastic down a few thousandths.) We used to throw one of the Nextel phones on the floor, just to demonstrate how tough they were. (They were mostly used by linemen, construction workers, etc.) The battery cover would pop off, the battery would slide down the floor, we'd put it back together and make a call.

But seriously, if you drop the phone more than once or twice (in the phone's lifetime) get a TPU case for it - at least. I think the i-Blason for the S4 is under $15. (And contrary to what they told me, it does fit with their screen protector on the phone.) Look on Amazon. You'll have trouble deciding, there are so many choices of TPU cases.

BTW, OtterBox cases aren't indestructible - give one to an active 13 year old. (I couldn't believe it, but every single part is now a separate piece - nothing is connected to anything any more. Just shooting hoops.)
