Root [International] Phone doesn't boot

Lurker
Well I'm rooted and not in the way i would like to be.

I flashed the jellybean rom for the I9300 and everything was going fine for a couple of months until it randomly turned off one day and wouldn't boot past the samsung logo.

I flashed the rom again and it seemed to work. I decided to go back to the stock rom and downloaded it. I did a factory reset and flashed the rom. Now the phone wont boot past the samsung logo again.

I tried flashing a new rom however Odin says either, can't open the serial(COM) port or something about no pit file being found. I have kies installed but all services stopped so the usb drivers should be installed right, seeing as I have flashed before. Is it possible that usb debugging isn't enabled?

Im fairly tech savvy but not so much when it comes to flashing android roms and would love some help seeing as i have spent an afternoon with google trying to fix it to no avail and as you can imagine, i'm kind of lost without my phone.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum

Where did you download the firmware from and did you tick repartition when flashing with Odin. There's no need to repartition when flashing firmware so that could be your problem.

Hi,

I downloaded the firmware from sammobile.com
I originally didn't tick repartition, however after it started asking for a PIT file i tried flashing with a pit file and the firmware which didn't work.

Im going a little crazy without my phone, luckily im quite busy at the moment.

The problem can be caused by kies running in the background but you've said kies isn't running so it must be something else:confused: I'd try using a different usb port/cable and see if that makes any difference.

Can you still get into recovery mode? If you can do you have a nandroid backup you can restore?

I suppose the firmware download may have got corrupted somehow so it may be worth re-downloading.

Maybe uninstall kies and Odin and reinstall Odin. There won't be a need to reinstall kies as the drivers won't be deleted.

Will it not even go into safety mode? (Taptaptapping menu button while it boots) to see if its an app causin it mate

Thanks for the help so far.

I have tried a different usb cable and port, no difference. I will uninstall Kies now and give it a go again.

No it just hangs at the Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300 screen, no safety mode when i repeatedly press the home button. I didn't even know there was one.

I went to this site
[Download] .OPS & .PIT files

to get a pit file, but there are three for my phone with no info on each, which should i be using if it really does need to be repartitioned. And what is the procedure, just use one of the files in the PIT box and the rom in the pda box in ODIN and then proceed as normal?

Cheers again, the effort is much appreciated.

So no recovery mode?

Anyway for the pit. They are for the different internal memory versions
**220= 16gb
**322= 32gb
**329= 64gb
Yeah put the pit in the pit box at the top of Odin, the firmware in pda and tick repartiton.

No recovery mode.

This may be progress or it may be bad news. Odin is now failing saying Complete(Write) operation failed.

*** I have read some posts about people having trouble on one computer, trying another computer with the same files and it working. I might see if i get time to try it at a friends place tomorrow.

Has the exact same results...

Where can i download the usb drivers? I just broke out my ancient laptop and i can't seem to get it to connect to the net, so i cant install kies on it.

I have even tried odin 1.85

I tried to do a system firmware recovery through samsung kies and it didn't recognise my phone. I've hit a wall with regards to things to try.

Do I just buy a new phone and consider this a lesson to not flash custom roms...?
