Ok, so I wanted to install the jellybeer ROM on my S3 and I've never done this before, I followed the instructions on a website and got to this point:

1. Make a backup of all your personal data, contacts, APN settings etc, as installation of a Custom ROM will involve wiping your device and settings. Stuff on your internal SD card like your photos, videos and music wont be affected.

2. Download the latest version of the Jellybeer ROM from the original XDA thread. No need to download and flash Gapps separately as they are included in the ROM

3. Now connect your Galaxy S3 to you PC and transfer the downloaded ROM zip file to the internal SDcard on the phone

4. Disconnect the phone from PC and turn it off completely.

5.Reboot the S3 into recovery. To do so, Press ‘volume up’ + ‘home’ + ‘power’ buttons at the same time and release them when you see the Samsung logo. Once in CWM use the volume buttons to navigate through options and the ‘power’ button to select them

The next steps were to format then go in 'Advanced Menu' and stuff like that but I don't have any advanced menu. It says Android system recovery <3e>.

I've already formatted it and I have no idea how to install the ROM... Have I bricked my phone?

Cheers

Will it still boot?
Before those steps you were supposed to root the phone and install a custom recovery (which does have those options)
What carrier are you on? We can get you sorted out. Dont worry

Before you go any further get and install Wug's Nexus Root Tool Kit -

Nexus Root Toolkit v1.7.2 | WugFresh

Plug in the hardware and the last known jelly bean version (odds are 4.2.2 and a safe place to start) and restore/flash your phone to it.

Please note that Wug's requires you to know what your hardware is and what version you want to flash to properly set Wug's to flash.

Follow the instructions for looped/soft bricked to restore your handset if needed.

Enjoy an unbricked phone and dont do anything else before consulting a knowledgeable forum such as this one.

Hi there, welcome to the forums! It sounds as though you don't have a custom recovery installed, which you will need in order to flash a custom ROM. What carrier are you with? If you post back with that, I will be able to move this to a better area for this discussion

lol that would be nice. I'm on 'du' which is a carrier in Dubai, I think it came factory unlocked.

Ok it used to be on the default S3 software, what do I do with Wug's?

hmmm I think its the international S3 because I can use it with any carrier. The carrier I use is called 'du' and its in Dubai.

Yeah itl be the i9300 international s3 so if a mod could move this before we get any more reckless suggestions from people who dont know the phone..... :D
Check your PM inbox Strider for a link to where this gets moved to
(Please ignore the "wug" thing)

Ok it used to be on the default S3 software, what do I do with Wug's?

Download and install Wug's on Windows XP - 8, make sure to grant it admin if on a OS later than XP.

Fire up Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit, NRT.

NRT has a built in driver install tutorial, make sure you follow it.

You need to follow the driver tutorial or at least hope an install of the Universal ADB drivers available here does it-

Koush

Once done make sure NRT is set to your specific device and Android release version! It makes sure NRT has the proper files to properly flash your device!!

If your device is operational than enable USB debugging, plug it in, and then follow the driver install to flash the stock image.

If your device is soft bricked/boot looped than reboot the device into bootloader mode by PRESSING and HOLDING volume down and power button.

You will see an android robot on it's back with it's chest open.

If you can get to that point click Wug's "Back to stock" button and flash the default 4.2.2 image for your device.
Follow all the rest of instructions to get flashed usable again.

I hardly view my advice as "reckless".

Thanks Woo but it doesnt sound like he's even soft bricked tbh mate. A battery pull will probably get it to boot. He hasnt successfully flashed anything (unless im really off the ball here lol)

Right, so here's what I've done. I used Odin3 and 'CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar', and now it boots into the old software again and it's like its brand new which is wonderful. Now, could anyone kindly point me in the direction of how to do the rooting and installing of the ROM? Cheers

Im not trying to be combative, we obviously are here on our free time working a common cause and I learn many new things a day here.. It's one of the best things about here really.

Cool wait till we get this moved into the right forum mate.
The phone should now be rooted. When you boot into recovery is it clockwork mod now?
In the meantime, have a good look around the international s3 all things root forum unless youre sure thats the rom you really want

Cool. so stride, has your recovery changed to clockwork mod now? And if you download the app Root Checker and run it, does it say if youre rooted?

Turn the phone off and boot up by holding in power, home and volume up. It will boot into recovery and there should be like a gear with a black hat on in the background lol. There will be a list of options like reboot, wipe/factory reset, install zip, backup and restore, mounts and storage, etc. Let me know

I seem to have gotten everything to work, thanks a lot fellas.

I installed cyanogen with the gapps. Any tips on stuff to do with it now?

Cool. Did you make a backup in clockwork first? If not, do it NOW! then if anything goes wrong, you can return the phone to how it is now

Then, if youre anythin like me youll wana look for some CM Themes on Play Store to change the look. and mess around with the statusbar and notification panel to get things lookin cool.
Have you checked if you still have root?

Yup, backed it up, not making that mistake again :P

lol I just spent a good 3 hours tweaking everything, it's so much better than the old one I feel like I have a new phone. Thanks a lot bro.

The guide you put up is for Nexus phones, not the S3 i9300, so it probably just wouldn't recognise the phone thorough the computer and trying to flash a stock Nexus image onto a S3 would brick it instantly. Looks like OP is sorted out now though anyway :)
