Root [International] removing root acess

joe sando

Newbie
ok ive tried to use triangle away to start the process of unrooting my phone..i followed the instruction video as on *** develpoers but alas it gave me problems
when I loaded it it said that su user was not active and had I given it permissions?????
is there an idiot guide on how I can remove the cwm and the su and go back to stock

sorry its been done to death but the pages ive tried have links that don't work anymore

kind regards A numpty!!!

CWM and root are totally different things. To get rid of CWM you have to find and flash a stock recovery.

To get rid of root, it depends on how you rooted. Kingo, for example will unroot if the phone is rooted (or root if it's not). Or you could clean up everything you did with rooted apps then uninstall the root app (Superuser, SuperSU, whatever) and, using adb, su and remove (rm) /system/bin/su. Remove /system/bin/busybox if it's there too.

If all you want is to keep apps from gaining root access, just uninstall the Superuser (or SuperSU) app.

Hey mate. Are you in UK? whats your reason for removing root?
If youre in UK, just flash an unbranded (non-carrier) uk firmware and the virgin sim should work.
If you wana use triangle away to hide the fact that the phone has been flashed (for warranty) you have to use it while rooted and then flash stock firmware to unroot

If the phone is locked to a network it should ask you for an unlock code when you put the wrong sim in

ok so I need an unbranded firmware then and yes im in the uk
I get emergency calls only but like I say it gives me internet from the sim?

yeah thats weird. Try the unbranded firmware n see what happens mate.
What network's firmware are you on now?
Maybe theres a virgin firmware. I dont know. Unbranded is best though because it has less bloatware and (should) get faster updates :)

it keeps giving me the would you like virgin settings blah blah blah but I just don't get the text?
so what version of firmware am I searching for please

Its been a while since ive had to look tbh (i use custom roms) but try sammobile.com/firmware and you want unbranded "BTU" firmware for gt-i9300

The mk6 firmware was a btu one and did not work
Im downloading two others..
When it was rooted it had a t mobile sim in ithence me thinking i could just throw my virmin media one in i just find it strange it will allow internet access on the sim but no calls..i know its not the sim as its fully working in another phone

There is no way you will have internet (data) access on SIM locked phone if your SIM is not from the same carrier the original lock is associated with. In other words, if you insert a SIM card from a different carrier than the one it is locked to then on powering the phone on it will ask you for an unlock code.

If it's SIM free then nothing will be required and it will just lock on to the network of the SIM provider. If you are saying you have data and the phone is SIM locked than it can only come from a WiFi connection!

As far as de-branding and unrooting are concerned all you need to do is flash a stock ROM (as funcky suggested got to Sammobile and download one), then run triangle away! Important, triangle away only works with a stock ROM!

Flashing stock firmware will overwrite the boot and recovery sectors, so you will have stock recovery and no more root. By-the-way, flashing an unbranded firmware will NOT REMOVE THE SIMLOCK! Unlock codes for SIM locked devices can be gotten cheaply and legally in the UK from many online services (done it myself for around

Im sorry you do not beleive me about this but when i put the sim into the phone and im not near my wi fi and wi fi is disconected on the phone i STILL can access the internet on my phone...
The phone says emergency calls only
And when i try to do anything it will not register to the network....when i put the sim in the phone i get a network message pop up asking if i want the settings ..but it does not send them
I have no reason to lie about getting internet????
The same sim works perfectly in my other phone

I am not suggesting you lie. This is not about lying but, more to the point, about trying to help. Many times people inadvertently get it wrong.

Anyway, if you do get data but you cannot make calls then it has to be something related to your SIM card or ??? I don't know what. The reason I'm perplexed is that being able to receive data suggest that a) you have the correct APN settings b) your SIM is recognised correctly c) you have a valid IMEI number (settings > general > about phone) and d) your radio is functioning.

If your device meets all parameters a) through d) then there is no logical explanation why you cannot make and receive calls or why the device does not register on the network. To receive data, a prerequisite is that your phone registers on the network.

Maybe someone else has any ideas.

Couldnt it be because he has the wrong modem/baseband guys? Thats why i suggested the sim free firmware

ok I have now tried lots of firmwares
I have wiped cache done factory resets
when the sim is inserted it gives me the choice of virgin or t mobile
soon as I select I get the doi want the configuration message
then nothing
emergency calls only

it is now really doing my head in

Sorry mate im stuck then  have you tried a virgin firmware if there is one?
And have you tried a friends sim?

No not been able to find a virgin one

I have done this .....Open your dial pad and then type in *#197328640#.

Go to Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock >then I just get this message....MENU NOT EXIST PRESS BACK KEY Current command is 186
