Root [International] Sudden Death? Bricked? What to do?

You can connect to any network. But if its not yours you cant message or call. Doesnt Giff Gaff use all networks? IDk. Maybe reflash? OR go back to stock and see if it works. If not, then you can unroot and go to fix it at samsung.

giffgaff uses the o2 network mate
Im a big gg fan. Maybe try flashing a specific o2 modem

Someone posted a link to a list of modems on here mate. I think it was an XDA Forums link

try flashing a new modem and see if it helps. We still haven not ruled out an issue with the sim could u try user sim in another phone or try someone elses sim in your phone and see if it works?

Just attempting to flash an o2 specific modem off here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740061

I'm trying to backup my phone before I update the modem using an SD card, but when I enter recovery mode there's no 'backup and restore' option there to select? Also, the little green fellow is lying on his back with his stomach open and a rather ominous red warning triangle floating above. Something tell me this isn't good? Is it a problem?

Thanks

I discovered that there's no backup option because I only have Android System Recovery not ClockworkMod Recovery, so il forget about backing up for now. Still not sure about the red warning triangle though.

I tried to install a new modem in a zip file using an SD card but it told me that the E signature could not be verified and I still have no signal so it doesn't seem to have worked.

Would it be a bad idea to flash an I9300 o2 specific ROM over the standard british one I used?

I'm not really sure to be honest, I've never used it before and I dont really know what I'm doing so I thought I'd just find some firmware where the modem is in a separate file, extract it and just flash that by itself?

just download philz touch recovery and flash it to your phone via odin the same way u flashed the stock firmware. Then make a backup and flash the modem u downloaded to try it out.

Yeah sorry mate. I thought that was possible too. As Silent says, if you flash a custom recovery like Philz, youll be able to flash zip files and be able to make full back-ups of the phone incase anything in future goes wrong

that seems quite drastic first check if ure IMEI number is correct(*#06#) and see you should get a 16 digit code if thats there then its not an issue with IMEI. I still think an easier option would be to try out another sim in your phone or your sim in another phone to rule out a simple issue with the sim and not the phone.
