Root [International] Which ROM do you suggest for stock Android

TobesEtc

Android Enthusiast
I'm interested in moving to a custom ROM to give a stock android feel (like my Nexus 7). Has anyone ported the Nexus 4 ROM across, or is there a better option?

I usually go to XDA for this sort of thing, but can seem to find what I'm looking on this occasion (probably because I'm looking for the wrong thing, I'm sure the answer will be there somewhere!)

Anyway, I'd like latest Android. No Touchwiz. Car dock works. Near to Nexus-esque as possible...but feel free to recommend others!

Thank you!

SUroot is right - you need to know the model of your S3 in order to know what ROMs are available. From your location in the UK however I would guess you have an international I9300.

The most "nexusy" rom is Cyanogenmod, as the team endeavour to port "pure" android to the different devices they support. If that is what you want then this is probably the ROM for you. Make sure you know the model number of your device and search for the relevant Cyanogenmod build on XDAdevelopers

Thanks...no wonder I can't find what I'm looking for when I post in the wrong area!

As an FYI of my experience level, I did use Odin several times on my S2 to change the firmware, so confident I can do so again. It's just making sure I get the right files in the first place so that the modem, Vodafone, etc all work fine.

Thank you!

You probably didn't read my last post because you posted a minute later.

As I said, Check out Cyanogenmod:

Download the zip file and copy it to your SD card.

You will need to download and flash a custom recovery using Odin before flashing the zip.

Download one of the custom recoveries listed in the following thread, just in case you have a phone susceptible to Sudden Death Syndrome (thanks for this thread, SUroot):

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091045

Then follow the instructions on the Cyanogenmod Discussion thread from where you downloaded the rom.

Thank you...I'll have a look through all of that over the weekend. Do you happen to know if these mods will allow the phone to sense that it is placed in a car cradle? The latest stock (International) firmware has broken that ability.

NeatRom from Sale is very smooth and stabil .

Yeah im running neat rom and its flawless but VERY touchwiz. Like the guy should be hired by samsung to get thier firmware good.

Im plannin on tryin to get a dual-boot thing goin on, neat rom for normal use and something more experimental for my geekyness.
How complete is cm10 now?

...oh yeah op.. remember to flash Gapps ;)

I'm thinking of trying the dual boot feature, thinking of hitting AOKP and see what I can get out of it

How would you restore the backup?

I didnt think that through lol umm make the backup app into a zip file (is that possible?) And just flash it? :)
....or just keep the gapps zip on mem card.... would that waste more storage memory?
