Help internet access

My note 3 (AT&T) has recently started trying to access the internet while i am in another program. This has happened with Overdrive (ereader app), a solitaire game, and one other app who's name escapes me at the moment. This has been a recent problem and none of these apps had this problem on my older Note. I have looked through various settings and can't find one that I suspect. Even if I turn off "Mobile Data" and WiFi, they will both turn back on. May there is an app that I can install that will log attempt at the internet?

There's an app called Network Connections in the Play Store that will show you what you want to know. You'll be surprised how many apps you find check in on the net on an almost daily basis after you install it. Network Connections
