Help Internet over Wifi - help plzz

Hi Guys,

I am a new android user and have very less clue on how it works.

After hours of search in google to find a way to connect my phone to the office network, decided to search in an exclusive form and got the answer here in 10 mins.

I have the wifi connected and I am able to use internet in the inbuilt browser.

Strangely Opera didnt work and as expected, none of the applications were able to access internet...

Does that ring a bell?

Cheers

Can your built in browser access more than just pages like Google Can it go to sites like yahoo.com?

Sometimes you need to log in to a webpage and usually the built in browser can do that where 3rd party ones don't have a solid record of enabling that. And that would prevent your other apps from accessing the internet.

I said I havent used an android phone.. doesnt mean that am a blonde :)

I tried some 10 different websites in the browser and all worked fine...

My work place actually uses a internet proxy.. gave the details in the Wifi proxy options.. could that be a reason??

well yes if you are on a network you have on control over then absoutely they could be blocking ports. have you attempted to use the handset on other networks? your home network?

are you rooted?

I am not sure if they have restricted any ports... but there is a very high possibility. I am using my laptop with so many applications using internet over the same wifi though...

I got the mobile just a couple of days back.. and just getting to know about rooting... so havent done anything yet... Njoying the look and feel of the new phone :)

I am able to use the wifi at home and all the apps work great..

If you have something that I can try... will do that tomorrow...

Cheers,
