Help Internet Tethering - Orange Mobile

CHANGE the Username from <Not set> to "Orange"

CHANGE the password from <Not set> to "Multimedia"

Make sure you use the capital first letters exactly as I've typed them there. Oh, and don't type the " marks. I'm sure if you're smart enough to use XDA-Dev you already know that, but no harm in stating it for the n00blets.

Authentication type should be set to CHAP. Make sure, I think it was anyway but just check.

Press your Menu button, tap "Save"

And that's it.

Switch on your "Wifi Hotspot" in your usual way, search and connect from your lappie, surf the bejesus out of those pesky Orange ratbags. Meanwhile your phone keeps its own connection side by side your tethered hotspot - that's what the "Orange Internet" settings alter, so don't mess with those.

Don't forget to use one of the WPA security methods of course, otherwise some cheeky knob-jockey will definitely enjoy your Orange account's data capacity right up to the hair.

Many thanks for helping out with the easy to follow instructions. Got my desire hd on orange 6 months ago and though that the wireless hotspot would come in handy one day - well today was that day! And guess what - didn;t work.

Working on S2, although i did have to set up a new APN, its all working fine!

Has anybody (who hasnt downloaded over there limit) been charged for using this?
 
Hi guys,

I've tried this on my Samsung Galaxy S2 but it's not helping for some reason.

On my Orange phone I am unable to edit Orange Broadband so I had to create a new APN like the previous poster.

I set it up like this:

Name: Orange Broadband
APN: orangeinternet
Username: Orange
Password: Multimedia
MCC: 234
MNC: 33
Authentication Type: CHAP
APN type: dun

However, when I enable wifi tethering, while my devices can connect and get an IP they have no Internet connectivity.

Can I just check, how does the phone know which connection to use for wifi sharing? I still have the other 'Orange Broadband' connection setup using APN: consumerbroadband.

Isn't there a chance my phone is still using that for WIFI sharing?

Any help is much appreciated. Also to dodgydazzler - are you running stock firmware or have you rooted your S2?

This is incredibly frustrating as so far since upgrading from my Nokia N95 Black I have lost features I used before - bluetooth tethering and usb tethering which just don't seem to work with this phone.

I was really banking on wifi sharing working so I could get my BB Playbook and laptop online when out and about.

Ok maybe the above isn't entirely true.

My laptop after a few mins shows Internet connectivity but DNS resolution isn't working at all. When I tried Google via IP it does load up.

However saying that, it's not just moved to a status of no Internet access again. Then it came back and two sites did resolve but then failed again.

Seems very flaky.

Could this just be down to the Orange network or anyone got other ideas - especially in terms of DNS?

Might be worth noting for anyone struggling I did have the 'consumerbroadband' APN but was unable to select it.

Just spent the best part of the afternoon on the phone to orange after being stuck at Bristol Airport yesterday & unable to access wifi on my IPad (No BT Openzone)
Was passed from pillar to post with lots of conflicting info, from no not possible to a 500mb bundle for a fiver. All I want is very occasional use when no wifi access & need a bigger screen - viola found this solution & it works a treat.

Does this mean all data is treated the same? Ie if you paid for a 500mb bundle how would orange discriminate between tethered data and the contracted 750 mb included data? Also for the techies does a downloaded web page take more data to display on an iPad than on a desire? Surely the data amount is the same it's just displayed differently?

I have an S2, I have tried to follow BH27 procedure, however everything is greyish so I can not do any modifications.

lordofthemoon you have confirmed the problem was over once you set up a new APN.
How do we do this? Can someone help?

Hi there I was trying to find the solution to my Samsung Galaxy S2 and now I got it work,

What you need to do is to change few things.

1 creat a new APN. and call it anything you like, I called mine "Tether"
2 CHANGE the APN to "orangeinternet"
3 Go to Username and write : Orange
4 Go to password and write : Multimedia
5 Go to MCC and make sure is set to 234
6 Got MNC and make sure is set to 33
7 Go to Authentication type and set it to : PAP
8 Go to APN Type and set it to Internet + DUN

Finally Save and exit

Voila

I hope I could help you people.
 
I too have a Samsung Galaxy S2... having upgraded (in some respects) from an HTC TyTN II... which used to tether via USB or Bluetooth REALLY easily. GPS accuracy and locking was so much better too.

BUT that's all changing thanks to DJRAPIDE... (and BH27 of course) My S2 will now allow iPods and laptops to tether AND give them DNS too so they're able to use the internet. Previously I'd had to use PDANet but that doesn't allow https on the free version. Paying for very infrequent use isn't an option really.

I have to do this every time i install a new ROM? any ideas why?
 
Thank you djrapide. Was gutted when I got my S2 & couldn't get tethering working with my Motorola Xoom, as I had done with my previous HTC Desire. I knew you goof folks on the forums would come good!! :)

Followed djrapide's instructions to the letter and it works straight away.

Incidentally, I've never been charged anything for tethering in the past. I'm not a heavy user - usually tethering to the Xoom whilst away with work or on train journeys. It works an absolute treat & means I didn't have to fork out the extra

Right, I have just done this. My wifi tethering starter to work when I used these;

Name :(don't think it matters, but I used) orange internet
APN : orangeinternet (all one word)
username : orange
Password : Multimedia (with capital m)
Authentication type : chap

All other settings as standard.

Hope that helps someone... as a note, writing this on the XOOM through my galaxy s2 net connection.

Also, we sure we wont be charged for doing this?
 
I have registered on this forum just to say thank you! Having spent time on the phone with both Orange and HTC without success, I then came across to this and solved the wifi tethering problem.

Both DNS and DHCP were on the same subnet, which suggested that DNS should be contactable/accessible, otherwise if not then the DNS daemon must have a software glitch.

So by specifying the IP address my phone should know where to look for the dns server. It worked.
So at this stage my conclusion is- whatever form of DHCP is leasing the IP addresses on the phone has some flakiness in it and it doesnt always define a IP address for the DNS server. Once this is manually specified in the TCP/IP properties the DNS server is contactable and routing of my traffic is fine.

I had the same issue, attempting to tether my SGS2 via USB to a Windows 7 machine. The device would connect, but would show "No internet access" message.

The fix above worked for me. I got the DNS address using ipconfig /all (from another machine on the network) and manually entered it into my Network Device connection / IPv4 properties. I did not need to manually enter an IP address, just the DNS.
