internet use while on phone

monkies

Newbie
so i guess the apple ads are right saying that you can't talk on the phone and surf the web at the same time?

called my girlfriend, and tried to get on the web. can't do it. tried accessing apps like Aloqa (looking for movies). can't do it.

finally i'll give apple some props.

It's not a limitation of the phone or of the OS (Android). My Hero can do it just fine. It is a limitation of the mobile network (Verizon & Sprint are CDMA networks) and if the iPhone was on either of those, it would have the same problem.

idk about all your CDMA stuff, but I called my mom and could im pretty sure I get on the internet at the same time. I will try it again to see...

EDIT: You are correct, I cant get on the internet. The website was just stored in my browser's cache... Sorry about that mix-up :)

Yep, you can do it while using wifi, but can't do it using 3G. I have read that it would be possible if Sprint or Verizon were using EVDO REV B, but they are only using REV 0 or A. I expect that we will be able to do simultaneous voice and data when we get LTE though.

Being connected via wifi is the ONLY way you'll be able to use data and talk on the phone at the same time with Verizon.

It seems as long as you have the WIFI on you can do both. My Eris works fine in WIFI areas on the web and using the phone, same time.

Yes it's a limitation of the network, but as long as you're connect to WiFi you can do both.. And honestly I know basically the only place I don't have WiFi is in my car, soooo I have no need to Talk on my phone, surf the web adn drive my car haha

still a big limitation. i never have the wifi on simply because i can hardly ever get a free wifi signal (i'm in the SF bay area too!).

Thats one thing I love about livign downtown denver there is free wifi everywhere. I've never paid for wifi, they even have a free WiFi service on the 16th Street mall (an outdoor mall that stretchs across the middle of downtown denver) which basically covers all of downtown

I honestly dont' see the use of really needing to talk on the phone and be on the internet , I've only done it once and that was to see if I could lol... I do however check emails a lot while on the phone but you can always access your email

I've never thought this was that big of a deal, but I just realized that google navigation needs data to update the maps. How is this handled on the Moto Droid? Do voice and gps keep working during a call and the maps are just blank?

I recently tried talking on the phone and using google maps at the same time in a wifi area. Google maps froze.

Most GPS apps will download the maps and directions to your phone when you first start. GPS will keep working when you are on a call though.
