Root Internet video issues

Hi. I'm a newbie who has recently rooted my EVO. I have been playing with different apps over the last couple of days since root. Earlier i tried viewing video feed from yahoo and was able to get audio but video wouldn't work. Nothing but a white screen. Not finding much on this issue. Youtube won't play either. Note: Netflix and Sprint TV work fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

what rom are you on? i would try and go into recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache and see if that helps. any time you get any weird issues, bug, or glitches always wipe those first. majority of the time it will fix the issues.

edit: where is my manners!
welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am running the stock ROM. Sense I think it's called. I appreciate your quick response OcnBrze. Could you guide me through this. This is still a little intimidating as I'm a newbie.

LOL, i don't know if i replied correctly or not. Anyways, I am running Sense Rom. Just wiped cache both types and am rebooting. Let you know in a bit.

this did not help. any other suggestions. could flash be causing this. I updated just in case to version 11 but did not fix.

hi guys, I'm new to the forum and posted this thread in all things rooted first. not really for sure where it belongs, though. I have an htc evo 4g rooted gingerbread with a netarchy-toastmod kernal. I am still running stock mod- sense. My problem is that whenever I go to watch video whether it be from youtube app or yahoo browser or even trying to record video I get nothing but a white screen. I do have audio. Conventional wisdom would tell me I have a problem with flashplayer. I have tried updating to version 11 but did not help. I reverted back to 10. By the way, when i run my netflix app video plays. I need someone smarter than I am to figure this out. -john

What ROM are you on?

Might be time to update the ROM & Kernel that seeing how your still running a froyo kernel. (If your on a gingerbread-based ROM, your kernel is your problem)

ok so not sure why you are having this issue still. i would try and flash a custom rom and see if that helps. i would try mikg3.11. it is waaaaay better then stock will ever be. if you need guidance then i would use this guide:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html and go to the after rooting section. there is a section on how to flash. and also on how to get switch recoveries if you are not already on amon ra2.3.

okay so i ran titanium backup, did a nandroid backup, followed the steps for flashing a ROM now i have no idea how to use new cyanogenmod 7 rom. camera works, and i can view videos from youtube no problem but now i don't know the process for restoring apps from titanium backup which is on the root of my SD card. Do I do a recovery or how do i access this. I thought maybe i could go into market and redownload titanium backup app. unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, their isnt a market app installed with the new cyanogenmod7? I have spent hours trying to fix this and its 4a.m. and i have to get up for work at 7a.m.

You have to flash the Google apps through recovery. The CM team isnt able to put them into the ROM because of a little bullying by google.

You can find the gapps usually in the OP of the thread you got your ROM from.

yep you need to flash gapps. here it is:
gapps-modified-vvm-20110828.zip

this one has sprint's visual voice message cooked in.

all aosp roms will have this problem where you will have to flash gapps separately. google has had issues with roms that is not running sense (which google approves is ok to run on the evo). since aosp is pure android, they have issues with it. but for some reason they are ok with us flashing the google's apps (gapps) separately. not sure why, but it is what it is.

Hey guys,

I wanted to let you know that my issue has been resolved thanks to your diligence. Before installing the custom cyanogenmod 7 I had done a nandroid backup(as i had read about). After installing cyangenmod7 and having the missing apps I decided to do a nandroid backup restore. Basically, I wanted to see if i could resolve the issue without changing to an ASOP ROM. Rxpert83, you had alluded to my toastmod kernal being froyo based and i was running gingerbread. I had installed this kernal about a week ago per advice by pandafloski:

How To Get Sick Battery Life on the HTC Evo 4G (not a joke) - YouTube

My attempt was to increase battery life by using the app autokiller memory optimizer and overclock widget. Anyways, this apparently caused a conflict between kernal (froyo) and rom (gingerbread). The conflict of course being that i couldn't play video. Like I said this affected my youtube app, internet browser (playing internet video), camera, camcorder, etc. I had nothing but a white screen where video imaging should have been. Though frustrating this has been a very educational experience and i couldn't have done it without you guys. Well done!

ah damn i missed that some how. yes froyo kernels will do this on gingerbread roms. that is why gingerbread roms should run gingerbread kernels. and the same goes with froyo roms with froyo kernels. good catch rxpert.

Glad we could get you all straightened out.:D

With anything tech related, you should try to make sure advice you are following is current. That video was posted in Feb 2011, back before gingerbread hit.

YouTube videos about how to root or do other things usually lead people astray. I always suggest that people stay away from them, or find the current methods first and then try to find a video that matches it.
