Help Internet

Basically I've noticed that I can't use my phones Internet unless I use wi-fi. I've always had Internet in my bundle but when I went on holiday I decided I didn't want to be running up silly bills like I have in the past browsing when I'm out and about so I made myself only use the hotels wi-fi to connect to Facebook or email etc. but since then I've found that my phone just searches wi-fi or then doesn't work if there is no wi-fi to connect to. My friend said there should be something that I can tick/untick telling the phone to connect to data connection if no wifi available but she can't find it.
Anyone know?

Ensure mobile data is on, if it's on and not working I'd check your APN settings are correct. I've had mine reset themselves before and have to manually input them to get the data working again.

Pull down the status bar and tap on Wi-Fi.

Yeah I can do that bit but like earlier i went out, if I tried to go on email or Facebook or say google maps then I can't, but the minute I come in the house it searches my wifi or if I go somewhere with wifi.

I know in the past I've been able to use my own data/Internet connection if I'm out and about which I can't now

How do I do that? And what are the APN settings?

On my phone the mobile data toggle is in the notification drop down area (International GT-I9300, could be different depending on carrier and model or if you've rearranged the notification area, I'm unsure)

APN (Access Point Names) settings vary depending on carrier that I am sure of, it's basically the settings you need to connect to your carrier to use data. Google will help there, or at least that's how I found mine.

Your APN settings should be ok unless you changed them which you obviously didnt.
Tbh it sounds like you have mobile data switched off?
Even with wifi switched on, if mobile data is on and the phone isnt connected to wifi then it should connect to mobile data (3g or whatever)
Sounds daft but try taking the sim out then back in....
