Help Intro/Wifi Problem

Well, I decided to migrate to Android (SS Galaxy SII) after an iPhone 3GS which I used for about a year until around the middle of October. I must say that the former is a lot less 'annoying' than iOS and it didn't take too long for me to get used to it. I like the fact that you can drag and drop files from a PC without additional software and that the filesystem is easily accessible unlike iOS. The only major drawback for me so far with the OS is that it won't categorise WAV or FLAC files with their respective albums or artists properly.

I know that the wifi problem is well known for Samsung's products, I have searched hours upon hours for one stable solution to this. Here is how it is: it worked absolutely fine for the first week (infact a bit more stable than my 3GS ever was) however the week afterwards I went on holiday and the connection to the router at the hotel was temperamental at best. Sometimes it took a little patience to get it connected properly, but it did work (sometimes jolted from 'Obtaining IP Address' to 'Authenticating' and 'Disabled' and 'Remembered'). Now I have returned home and the wifi basically doesn't work properly anymore. The sleep mode is off. It just stays stuck on 'Obtaining IP Address'. I have tried using a Static IP Address, and it does get connected, but internet doesn't work with either the default browser or Opera Mobile. I have even tried one of the many small applications on the AD Market for fixing WiFi, with no luck (along with rebooting the thing, and turning the WiFi on and off constantly). The firmware is up to date but the OS version is still on 2.3.3 (it is way to complicated and time consuming for me to upgrade that). I am desperate to get a stable fix so does anyone have any suggestions for me that would also help many who have the same kind of problem. Thanks.
