Hey all,
I'm new to the forums, but I've been reading over the past week or so every post I can find. Went from a Blackberry 8330 to a palm pre, to an old LG Rumor (Original) I had to get away from the palm pre battery, and I've finally decided on the Evo Shift 4G.

Took me forever to decided between the Evo or the Evo Shift, but I believe the Shift was the right choice. Just wanted to take the time to say thank you for all the great information that the members here have managed to put together. It made me feel a lot more comfortable in renewing my two-year with Sprint. (Family has been with them for a decade, but with the Verizon iPhone I almost hopped ship!)

This will be my first Android powered device but thanks to everyone here I feel like I'm ready to hit the ground running. Going to pick it up in a few hours and I'll be doing a full review of my own here in this thread.

PS. My name is Austin Foster, I'm a twenty year old male from south Atlanta, I've got experience with tech. Built my first rig when I was 10 and I can code in a few languages. If anyone has any projects they need / want help with I'd love to help and become a member of the community as quickly as possible.

Thanks EarlyMon!

So, a little bad luck today with Sprint. I called last night to make sure the Shift was in stock at my local sprint store and asked that they mark it for me. Once I drove to north Atlanta to pick it up, I found out they sold the last one right before I got there. -_- (About 10:45am EST)

I called sprint and for all my trouble they took 130 dollars off my bill and are overnighting it to me free of charge. Might get it Wednesday, but at the latest it should arrive Thursday. Kinda disappointed but it works out for the best in the end. Saved me some decent cash.

Either way, as promised, I will be doing a full review of the Evo Shift 4G from the viewpoint of someone who has never owned an Android device or a 4G device.

I actually played with one today at my local Sprint store and it felt great. It was just as sturdy as the G2 and a much better build than the Epic. My family has androids and I am late joining in the game, but soon I will have my first android phone. I love the Evo and am familiar with it. The Shift performs on the same level as its big brother if not better. I can not wait to get this phone. Enjoy it Austin. Btw, I am Chase =). I too live in Atlanta

So glad to meet someone from Atlanta! I absolutely love it here, born and raised @ Grant Park. (Zoo Atlanta these days)

Nothing like Waffle House and that G-A red clay.

I'm glad to hear you liked the shift as well, It took me forever to decided on which one to snag. The Shift has the slide out keyboard, but after trying the original Evo I was afraid I would even up using the on-screen keyboard anyway. I finally settled on the Evo Shift* because of the color and the 2nd gen Snap Dragon.

Hello, I've had my evo shift for 2 weeks now and love it, my first smart phone. My wife originally got the epic but after 1 week we went back and she exchanged it for the shift. She is glad she did and loves it. Thanks for all who post here, I have learned alot from here and still learning. I am also from the Atlanta area, Locust Grove. I am disappointed in the signal I get at my house, 0 to 1 bar. If I find the right spot I can usually make a call otherwise no signal.
Sal

What part of Locust Grove are you from? I live off New Hope currently and have a pretty okay signal, 3-5 bars, on almost all of the phones in the house.

If the problem persist you could contact Sprint about receiving an Airwave.

I live off of South Ola about a mile before it dead ends into Peeksville. Once I leave my driveway I have a good signal.

Today was my first day with my Shift. I can actually say I did notice wonky signals with 3G. Hmm, Doing some testing and I'll get back to you. A reboot of the device gave me 5 bars again and it appeared the more I used it the more it degraded.

(There is a cell tower near my yard.)

man i thought atlanta was a great hotspot. im in Lithonia (town over from St. Mtn) and I get 4 to 5 bars at home on my blackberry. I tried the 4G on my bro in laws Evo and sisters Epic and on 4G got a good steady 3 bars sometimes 4. when I get my Evo Shift ill report back on the signal.

Atlanta near the city is an amazing hot spot :D

Lithonia is great, I do a lot of shopping at Stonecrest. That Klondike gas station has the best prices on my cigarettes too. Unfortunately being some south of the city seems to have killed my signal.

Thats the Sprint store I went to yesterday and I wonder if its the location of the store or what but someone had the 4G signal on and it was full bars. Hopefully it isnt a fluke to sell the devices but the web browsing was beyond fast. Phone was snappy too but you can tell it was worn a little. There were about 6 others looking at the Shift comparing it to the Evo. I must say when I put them side by side it is a significant difference but I love the size of the Shift.

Yah, the shift is the perfect size to me. I can say even without a great signal my phone and web browsing has been really really snappy. No disappointments at all.

I do keep hitting the volume rocker when holding it, but it can be disabled.

Camera quality is shocking, it's really great. I read a lot of negative reviews about the camera on the shift, but I've yet to run into any of the problems they mentioned. It's really really great.

Day one with Android went great. I spent about three hours getting everything the way I wanted it, once that was done I found that I feel as if this phone was made for me.

My battery has lasted so many hours. Angry birds for 45 minutes, Gmail (recieved 242 emails), texting, phone calls, wifi, app downloads, a lot of pictures. Went to bed with 40% battery including the hour long phone call I had.

The phone feels heavy, but not in a bad way. It just feels really solid. Not at all like the display units. The slider is rather stiff, but never wiggles or has any play. It feels expensive and well built.

call quality is pretty good too. It's loud but not so loud it sounds flat. Speaker phone was really clear, kind of shocking compared to my pre.
