iPad 2 vs Android Honeycomb

In my view, even though the iPad 2 is lighter and thinner than the newly announced honeycomb tablets, I think that the Honeycomb tablets are by far better than the limited Apple iPad 2.
I know the iPad 2 will probably sell better than Honeycomb tablets; however this is probably due only to Apple being very well known, and that people have lack of knowledge of other options.
What do you think?

You're right on the iPad 2 selling more, but I anticipate Honeycomb tablets gaining a lot of foothold in the tablet market. Similar to how Android rose to now be the top selling phone OS.

I'm giving the Android tablet market another 6mo to a year before I take the plunge. Just got rid of my iPhone so I don't want an iPad either. No more Apple products for me. Don't want to feed their ego anymore than it is.

Interesting. I think (more of a hope) that tablet consumers will see that the ipad isn't as special as Mr. Jobs thinks it is. Especially in comparison to what android is coming out with.

However, what is more appealing to consumers is simplicity. And I hate to say it but iOS is more simplistic than android. You have to remember that people buying tablets right now are buying them as an add-on to a computer.. to use as a "fun" easy to use device. Honeycomb is much more full featured, but the differnence is first impression. When a new user shopping tablets picks up a honeycomb tablet they are going to be more confused than when they pick up a iPad. Put simply, iOS is recognizable - almost everybody knows how to use it. Honeycomb is new and can be overwhelming for some. Will android become a big player in tablets? Yes. Soon? Probably not. But they will sell and once Android becomes normal for users and creates a user base other than us - technologically comfortbale individuals.

I don't expect Android tablets to make a big impact this year. I would expect Android tablets to start really increasing their market share next year. Many tablet manufacturers are coming up with their first generation tablet. I think it will take the next generation of tablets before they really gain some traction in the market.

If I was in the market for a tablet I would just get a refurbished iPad 32GB WiFi 1st gen. Check their site. LINK The iPad2 doesn't seem to be enough of an upgrade to buy.

thanks - but they aint cheap - and they is old tech now :D

for me its gotta be between pad2 and honeythingy

Honeythingy, lol. I definitely laughed.

But it's really up to you, main thing to choose between is: Android or iOS.

I don't know if the Honeycomb tablets are going to be the real threat to the iPad. I think the real threat to the iPad is the lower end tabs running 2.3 and below, the people who are looking for inexpensive alternatives to the iPad. When an American company finally builds an inexpensive quality android tablet that just works is when the iPad will have to worry. I think people would be more apt to purchase a good inexpensive tablet from a local company that backs their product rather then a foreign company.

As much as I like Android 3 - it pretty much does want I want and iOS 4.3 doesn't - it doesn't support authenticated proxy servers and that's a deal killer for me. (And please nobody mention custom ROMs and rooting - these are consumer devices and this sort of fundamental funtionality should work straight out of the box.)

The Xoom appeals to me despite its not charging via the USB port (is abuse of illegal vegetable substances mandatory for engineers or something?), but if I can't log into my organisation's network it's effectively just a very expensive door stop.

from reviews seems like android is still well off the pace on tablets/os - ipad 2 it is for me then :D
cheers
