iPad 2 vs Asus eee pad transformer?

Yeah, i'm not arguing with that. I'm actually a huge apple fan btw. I have purchased 2 apple MacBooks in the past. Just got the new 2011 one :D. Please read carefully though, I'm not saying they dont hold value well, i'm just saying consistently buying and selling like that not the best idea imo, because of two reasons: you lose money each time you make a transaction, and they come out every year sometimes twice a year. The apple cycle for each apple product doesn't always stay the same too. For example, the 2011 macbook pro actually came out a couple months late from when its due. The Iphone's June launch got delayed to September. Sometimes the cycles are shortened, but it really comes down to Apple and their secret labs lol.

Also those craiglist posts are just posts people made, it doesn't necessarily mean they'll be sold for that price. There's alot of bargaining aftermath you have to consider. I actually sold my 2008 macbook for $600 this February and the iPad 1st gen posts you showed are really expensive and overpriced. You can get a brand new or refurbished 64gb Ipad for as low as$545 and with a case. AT&T had stock along with macmall. I'm not arguing that they don't hold value, just saying keeping up with technology every generation is expensive. My theory is to max out the hardware of whatever you want to get and live with it for three years lol.

I understand. But not everyone is willing to be tied down for even a year. And you can always tell yourself that lost value went towards instant gratification. ;)
 
I bought an Ipad 2 and had it for 2 days before I took it back and got the transformer, the one thing I must say is the Ipad 2 has some great apps some of which (as far as I know) are not available on android, garageband was great fun in the time I had it. I changed because I like being able to change things to the way I like them and being locked to whatever memory you buy with no chance of expansion, If you dont want to have to wait for the next gen apps that take advantage of honycomb and the Android pads then I would go for the Ipad 2 there is some great stuff available now and if I could afford it I would have both, one thing thats mentioned on the transformer is how good the screen is, and it is a good screen but to my eyes even though its smaller with a little less resolution I would say the Ipad 2 has the edge..the colours just seem more vibrant. LOL I come across as a fanboy of Apple but I dont have any Apple products my phones Android as is my pad and a Sony for mp3. If theres a store that has a return policy try both then decide.
 
I think the best thing about android devices is the ease of accesibility. And from a gaming perspective when looking at the asus transformer you clearly have a highier spec range to play around with if your more interested in the quality of playing over the games. The only game i can think of that the i pad 2 has over any android device is the cod zombies app which, if you can ignore that there aren't really many differences if your looking for games. The thing to think of now is the addition of on live to the gaming world, with this you can run games in full hd qualty just from the internet, and if your looking for hard core game on mobile devices the transformer is the clear choice. Helping this is the fact that the transformer has the keyboard dock to use for gaming, a bigger screen which is also better for gaming, it comes at a cheaper price, usb ports if you wanted to use a mouse or a plug in game pad, as well as bluetooth to use for game pads and what not. in my opinion the Transformer is the clear choice.
 
For me, the keyboard dock tipped the scale in favour of the Eee Pad Transformer. My dock is connected more often than disconnected.
 
I have had both the ipad2 and the Asus Transformer.

Got rid of the ipad2 - I have STILL got the Asus Transformer - without a dock it's fantastic and with a dock it's stunning.

iPad 2 has many more games and a much better GPU. If that is your primary interest then get the iPad 2.

Or wait for the Transformer Prime with Tegra 3 which is around 3 times faster for gaming than the first Transformer. It still won't have as many games as the iPad 2 though.

Ha whatever. Seen the Tegra zone? is there anything like that on iPad?

Check out shadowgun, etc... Games are only going to get better with the beefier processors..

Windows > Mac for games, because Mac was so restrictive on what could be done. Android gamers will very soon find more 'quality' games as well, because they won't be restricted by iTunes rules.

Very much agreed. Games are a "serious matter" on Windows vs Mac and very much seems like how it's going to be on Android
 
I bought my wife an ipad2 recently because she needs something basic. I never realized just how limited apple was until now. The app market is awful! You can't download apps to customize it and no app for flash. I feel trapped while using it. When I go from the iPad to my galaxy nexus it's like I'm in the good zone. If you have ever considered getting apple don't! I always wondered what the fuss was all about. It looks like they are very good at marketing. Did I mention the apps are way better with android?

A better platform? No - it is crass and crippled. No USB ports (simply moronic), no card slots - inexcusable! With the Transformer we can add cards, external USB drives, even a DVD drive.... you can't do any of these on the Icrap.
 
Stability: The iPad is more stable than the TF but it's not 100%. My mother has an iPad and the second time I used it, it froze and I had to reboot. I was actually shocked by this because I had believed all the stability hype. She just called me yesterday because Draw Something wouldn't start and I walked her thru a reboot which fixed the problem.

That being said, most of us here just went thru a couple of months of torture with random reboots and battery drains due to the ICS upgrade. ASUS has finally fixed the issue. Now my TF101 is as stable as it was under HC. I'd say I've only has to force a reboot for stability a handfull of times since ownership. So it's at least as stable as the iPad.

Battery Life: I get 10 hours of constant use on the TF101. 10% per hour. Standby time is 3 to 5 days. It was closer to 8 under HC, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

If you go for the TF line, I'd get the TF201 or the TF300. I'm keeping my TF101, at least until the rumored Nexus pads come to market.
 
I own both an iPad 2 and the Transformer. I hate Apple. I hate how they lock everything down, how they don't allow for customizations of almost any kind. I hate iTunes with a passion. That said, I believe the iPad is better and is the best tablet made today.

The iPad is smoother, has better apps and gets better battery life (in my experience, YMMV). I wish I could say differently but it's the truth. For example, I have a bunch of synthesizer apps on the iPad which are of amazing quality. To the best of my knowledge there are none on Android (please prove me wrong, I'd love to get some synths working on those stereo speakers!).

I will say that Android's concept of sharing is a huge bonus. I found a recipe on Safari on the iPad and wanted to save it to Pocket. When you open Pocket, if there is a URL in the copy buffer, it will prompt you to add it to Pocket. That prompt will disappear in a few seconds and if you miss it, it's gone. I missed it (watched it fade before I figured out what it was). Frustrated I picked up the Transformer and completed the add in a few easy seconds using Share.

I hope Android improves and kicks Apple's butt. At this time Apple is still the tablet king. I feel dirty for saying it.
 
Although I'm not ready to go to the dark side, my 2c after getting my wife the "new" Ipad, is it depends what you're looking for. In the brief time of seeing my Transformer in action with the Ipad, I have to say that the Ipad is a much more impressive device. Bottom line is it WORKS. The Transformer at this point with ICS is an embarrassment to even demonstrate to anybody. As a user, I can kinda put up with the quirks, but the other day I'm trying to get directions to a place on maps with a friend, and the transformer can't even keep google maps open. What a joke. To the op: if you're looking for gaming and general use, get the Ipad.
 
After many problems with ISC firmware i must say ... iPad. 2 months after ICS release is tablet still unstable, sometimes tablet drain all batery during the night

I got a firmware update about 2 weeks ago. It fixed the issues I have had with ICS. My tablet is stable again.
 
Mine is back to "normal" too, loving it. (For a couple months I didn't use it much, because I was afraid of it bootloop/battery draining while I wasn't using it..
