Ipad or Xoom??

Hmm, I wonder why I paid $651.94, no contract out the door. I swear that's not 800.

Because you had it to blow and decided to buy a toy. Nothing wrong with that I suppose.
There's no way you could get me to pay ANY amount for an ipad.
I am happy to pay for quality.
You get what you pay for.
I invest in REAL machines.
My 1 yr and 3 yr old sons would probably take an ipad though.

your correct android is neither trendy nor a good fit for those easily swayed by trends. Just say no. Live above the influence. Yah for anti drug quotes :D

I can't believe I left out the skin tight girl jeans guys are now wearing.
I don't want anything to do with those either.
Its physically impossible and would be too painful for me

Battery is about one third smaller on the Toshiba, so probably needs to be replaced ;) Probably part of the business plan for the device, by getting add-on battery sales :)

All should have battery access, but everything is relative (Toshiba has much smaller battery).

They have not announced the size of their battery so your claim is pure speculation and conjecture.

They did announce during the CES that Toshiba is aiming for 7 hour battery life of doing full video viewing, which is in par with both the iPad and Xoom battery lives. Although it may be a bit shorter than the Xoom.

So actually the battery should be on par=equal to the others.

But AGAIN, they did say they have yet to announce it but they are shooting for 7 hours.

It is in the video in here: Toshiba shows again its 10" Honeycomb tablet with a removable battery and swappable back covers - Phone Arena

And yes they show a battery but again, they could up it or lower it depending on how they want this to play out.

I really like the Xoom, but if they don't get some really good apps to the device very soon it will just be another tablet.

The iPad has so many solid apps these days, the iPad 2 won't have to worry about satisfying customers.

I need Netflix, and Hulu Plus to be honest. I watched a ton of it on my iPad. If I don't get reports of them coming to the xoom, this thing is going back within the 14 day grace period.

Why would you think they wouldn't? The same was probably said for an android phone released when the iPhone had a ton of apps already.

Look into thetoshibatablet.com full USB 2.0, miniUSB, full SD card slot, and HDMI out.

It looks SLICK and has a user replaceable battery!

Overall the wifi is going to come out first in spring (late march early april is the current estimate) and should be competitive with the iPad (around 400-500ish).

I am easily going with Toshiba vs Motorola, although that could have been different if they released the Xoom wifi only with the 3g unit, that was a big oversight, I hope they got paid well by Verizon...

It's a nice looking tablet to be sure. For me, I'm extremely happy with the Xoom.

We'll see ... Tegra 2 seems great. The screen? Meh for me, very little contrast. Issues with photos (at least in the Gallery app). Nothing at all remarkable about the screen IMO after 1 day.

I don't have a problem with the screen, personally. I know that some people seem to not like it or think it should be better. I can respect that.

I think that will help significantly, when it comes. Just using 2 Honeycomb-specific apps now makes a HUGE difference to me in my tablet experience.

Yes, I agree. The apps are VERY important to the success of this tablet. But, we're only at day 2 here. It will come in time.

Being early adopter also means experiencing the pain of non-working features (flash, 4G, SD card, little tablet apps) that all will be improved by waiting a bit. I like my XOOM, but I am feeling some of the early adopter growing pains of it ..

Yea, early adopters ALWAYS feel the pain. We get the benefits, too, though. It's a tradeoff. That's how it works. :)

If I've said it once I've said it 1000 times.
If you own a Android phone get a iPad
If you own a iPhone get a Android Tablet

You'll be happy and have the best of both worlds.

I love my LG Optimus V (replaced my EVO) and my iPad. $25 a month, unlimited data, and free hotspot with out rooting. Granted I don't get flash on my new phone, but I dont play flash games and I'm not missing it on the few web sites I visit that have it. If it was that important I'd have a laptop.

But, I have a Droid running Sapphire (sigh) AND a Xoom. And I'm happy. :D I'm not sure why people are expecting, on *DAY 2*, the Xoom to have as many apps as an iPad which has been out for a year. The apps will come, but, if your expectation is that they'll be out within 2 weeks, you're likely going to be disappointed. This is a very new OS and will take some time for people to write quality apps that really drive it to its full potential. When I bought the Xoom, I knew what I was getting into. I for one am in it for the long haul.

I heard the same thing from the people who picked up the gTab until a week before their return period was up. Play with for 3 weeks and take it back. It's the absolute worst time of the year to buy new tech, just wait until May or June.

It has a USB port but its a micro - cant plug in a thumb drive. And rumor (fact?) has it that is is a slave, not host. Meaning you can basically plug it into your computer to xfer files but no mouse, keyboard, drives, etc

Well regarding the USB host capabilities, I can confirm to you (and don't take my word for it, check out the digging I did on the official Motorola Owner's Forums) that according to an actual Moto tech that worked on the USB end of things with the XOOM, that the XOOM is fully equipped with USB host capabilities...however, it will not be until a software update is released from Moto/Google that we will have these abilities available. And I'm guessing it will be the same software update that enables the microSD card slot. What you will need is a cable/adapter that will be released by Moto in the near future (just google "Motorola Xoom Camera Connection Kit" and you'll see what it looks like). This was a HUGE requirement for me and my photography hobby, so fear not, the USB host capabilities are not restricted by hardware, but fortunately at this point only by software! :D

As the saying us, though I think I thought of it ;) , 'if you're waiting for the latest and greatest you'll be in perpetual waiting because the latest and greatest is always around the corner'.

I think SamuriHL said it best, the pain but also the reward. Personally I think the reward outways the pain big time.

I agree. After spending 2 days with it, I can honestly say I have not a single regret on my purchase of the Xoom. I think the kinks will get worked out. I'm seeing apps getting updates already, so, clearly things are being worked on as we speak. The reward in this case really is awesome.

I agree 100%. The experience has been great. After playing with several tablets its nice to one that just work,s no hacking. Worth every penny of $600, can't wait to see how 4g works.

It's not without some wrinkles that need to be ironed out. I just tried Motorola Media Link to try to get some iTunes songs on it. Yea, it didn't work very well. And I've had some apps that refuse to install saying they're not compatible with the Xoom. So, some minor things, but, overall, yea, completely agree, it just works. Besides....Angry Birds looks so awesome on it! :D LOL!

Curious, what have you been doing with your xoom so far?

Email (exchange and google), web browsing, accuweather (I like the tablet app), CNN, music, movies, and of course Angry Birds. I'm sure I'll be doing more with it this weekend. I rather liked being able to read in bed this morning before getting up. So far, it's done EXACTLY what I expected it to and what I bought it for. And I suspect it'll do far more and surprise me a fwe times as time goes on.

In 2 to 3 weeks you'll start seeing this:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-tab/224068-took-my-galaxy-tab-back-shop-refund-today.html

Its the fate of all tech. People normally spend the first few weeks patting themselves on the back for being first and trying to convince everyone how great of a purchase they made (I've done it too) then the guilt outweighs the ego and they take it back. And then you always have people like me pointing this out like I know what the h#ll I’m talking about. J

I agree. I prefer android on my phone. Free wifi tether is great:) Would like to get a verizon thunderbolt for 4g, but I'm curious to see what the data plan will cost. I can't see $29/month for unlimited 4g like people are saying on the forums.

Just bought an Ipad last month, and it's great for what I use it for. Reading books, quick word processor on the go(Pages), XBMC, some light gaming, etc. Way better selection of apps too. Thought it might be a bad decision since the Ipad2 is coming out, but it looks like the new one will just have slight improvements that I can be happy without. This will keep me happy until next year.

Dual core and a nice graphics chip are overrated in my opinion. Probably only a handful of apps/games will take advantage of those before I upgrade next year anyway.

As for the Xoom, I'm more interested to see where it is maybe 6 months to a year from now. The bugs should be ironed out, some decent apps/games for Honeycomb should show up, and some of the missing features that were promised should be ready by then. I wasn't thrilled to hear you have to send your Xoom in to Motorola for the 4g upgrade. 6 day turnaround. Yeah, ok.

What's ironic for me is that if the gtablet didn't have such a p.o.s. screen, I would've bought that a few months ago instead.

I don't know why people call apples apps quality. They have quantity, no doubt. But their apps aren't any better than Androids. So many apps on iTunes just blow.

Almost any app. that is on both platforms performs better on IOS IMHO. I can't think of one on Android that is better (I am sure there some).
