Ipad or Xoom??

Nope. I'm keeping my Xoom. My wife, however, is getting an iPad2 for her b-day. (I got the Xoom for mine). She has an iPhone 4 and I have a Droid. So, no, it didn't change my mind, but, it did help her decide she wants an iPad2.

To be honest, I do like the size of the iPad better in general. But with an Android phone, it really makes sense to have the same OS, and share apps and all that. Plus my online classes use flash, so it's not realistic for me to never have it (c'mon Adobe, hurry up!!). But form factor-wise, I wish the Xoom was a little closer to the iPad dimensions.

My husband might get an iPad though- he's a musician so in general uses Apple more. So I guess we're a mixed family. ;)

Yup, that's the killer right there. I'm annoyed enough at having to wait. If everyone does move to html5 like Jobs wants, hey, fine by me. But til then, I need something with flash.

But yeah if there were an Android tablet with those dimensions, I would've gotten that. the HP tablet I think is gonna be that size, so maybe there will be an Android one in the future, too.

Any News on when the other Android units will drop? a few design changes could causea big splash. And lets face it there is a pool of tablet buyers out there waiting. MOTO was wise to jump first but now that the standard bar is set for both OS's so the other mfgs will have to match or exceed.

MOTO simply needs to FINISH the Xoom and it will decimate all. :D Flash, 4G, expandable memory, usb host most. All things that would go a LONG way towards making it THE best tablet on earth. We'll get there, but, we'll see how fast.

I pad is a beautiful looking device love all apple hardware and has soooo many great applications. One of the best reason apple is great is also the same reason I'd never personally own a I pad is how simple the os is to use. Simple is great when it comes to ease of use and thats why I will still recomend the Iphone and or the Ipad to my friends and family members that want something just easy to use. However with simple you are losing what I'm sure most of us love doing is tinkering and personalizing our gadgets.

I agree mostly, somewhere I read the USB host could never work on Honey3.
I just can't find the link.

I love android. And I love the xoom I bought last week. Havent read through this entire thread. but someone needs to convince me not to return the xoom and go out and buy the ipad2.

I think my real issue is the lack of apps. I was seriously under the impression there would be more than ~15 apps optimized for tablets when this thing came out.

things I love: google talk (everyone i know is on it), google cal/contacts/email seemless integration and fun-factor of android.

things im upset about: mobile pages in browser? come on
and lack of apps

The ONLY thing that the iPad that as a Xoom owner I have any envy over at all is their integration of iTunes and HD movies that can be downloaded and rented. Google has to do better than Amazon for music and ???? for movies.

If you need someone to convince you to keep or return a product you need to give that product to the person(s) who convinced you...lol

Seriously, in the end only you know what you want or dont want. If you want the Xoom, keep it. If you want the iPad 2, return the Xoom and get it.

Call me crazy, but to me its that simple...

But:

I think this makes alot of sense. You always hear talk about ecosystems...Unless I had an iPhone or already had an iPad, it wouldnt be practical to me get get an iPad 2 IMO.

This is a big x factor I dont think anyone brought up, but what if most of the apps you use now on your Android phone can be redone for tablets? That would be huge.

But thats a big if right now.

That's simply not true. Moto has a camera connection kit for the Xoom. That's all I really need. I need to be able to get pics off my K-x and onto the Xoom.

I guess what im trying to understand is when, if at all, honeycomb will catch up to ios in terms of apps and media access (hulu, netflix, hd videos etc...)

If they can catch up substantially in a few months with some of these core issues, I can be happier with my XOOM than i would ever be with the ipad...

any thoughts?

You have to take into account how many tablets are coming out this year with Android software in them. No one tablet will out sell the ipad...but collectively they will blow Apples numbers out of the water. That amount of people means the developers will come...no questions asked. It is the same as the iPhone vs. Android in the phone world. This past year android gained so much ground it is rediculous. Same will be for Android tablets. Just give it a little time.

Netflix has said they're working on a client for tegra 2 devices. Don't forget with Flash you can do quite a bit of things you couldn't ordinarily do. PlayOn, for example. I think Amazon's VOD uses flash. Hulu. They do need to update the video codecs to really take advantage of the GPU in the tegra 2. We'll get there. It's going to take some time to address all these issues. Remember, this is a *BRAND NEW* tablet platform. And google was smart by giving a lot of devs at the GDC a bunch of Xooms and telling them "go to your room and play." Brilliant strategy IMO. This OS is open. The Xoom is easy to unlock and have devs mess around with. Give it a few months and I think we'll really be stunned at where we are.

This is absolutely true. All the people complaining about the price of the Xoom fail to realize something. This is the showcase device for HC, a brand new tablet OS. There are going to be tablets all over the spectrum of price/features/size/etc. Honeycomb will improve. Apps will be written and released. The openness of the platform will allow some great things to happen.

Ok. successfully talked off the ledge. It just kills me to see all the functionality out there ready made with the ipad, but I know in the long run I will be happy I stuck it out.

I have had an HTCincredible for a year now almost, and when the iphone came to verizon - i didnt flinch.

just have to hang in there a bit and im sure we'll get there.

I hate iTunes. Hate hate hate.

I hate them too. I hate the way they make it so you can't use YOUR music that YOU buy on anything but THEIR devices. That is the #1 reason why I stopped giving Stevie any more of my money. What I DO envy about it is the way that it is integrated in all of their products. The wide variety of products available and the ease of which you can access them is very nice.

OH BTW, I know there are ways to remove the DRM and ways to take YOUR music to other devices, but the point is you shouldn't have to find ways. If you buy it, it's yours. Apple lost me when I bought my first iPod Nano used on eBay. That is the only fruity electronic device I've ever bough and will ever buy. Fruit belongs on my underwear, NOT on my electronics.;)

Er, not to dispute you or anything, but the music on iTunes hasn't had DRM in quite a few years now. :) Movies, tv shows, yes....but not music.

LOL, see shows how long it's been since I've used iTunes. The one device I had left a horrible taste in my mouth.
